Had the pleasure of speaking at an Alberta Teachers conference last year (in gorgeous Banff!) and was reminded yet again how teachers and librarians are truly on the front lines in this deadly serious battle for free expression—both in Canada and the U.S.

"Alberta’s actions are paving the way to a new era of government-sponsored book banning," @pencanada.bsky.social writes. "This initiative ... is likely to catalyze a targeted purge of marginalized voices—especially LGBTQ+ narratives" pencanada.ca/news/pen-can...

A 1953 student public health assignment included this quote from a public health physician about fluoridation disinformation "the so-called evidence against this method of prevention of dental decay was from 'crack-pots and individuals without scientific backing.'" We need more of this directness.

I'm sorry everyone. I killed Bluesky. It was me. In my defense I thought the red button said "lunch"

#Measles is not being spread in Canada by visitors or temporary workers. It’s being spread by unvaccinated people infected with measles.

I recognize there's a lot going on at universities right now, but it still surprises me that Saint Mary's is refusing to offer the Canadian History survey courses, in this the year of questions about soveriegnty and separation. They do a lot of heavy lifting to combat disinformation.

We've all seen the increase in hate, harassment and violence the last few years. Unfortunately, most of us don't feel equipped to step in and intervene. We're scared of being hurt or making it worse. Let me teach you effective intervention - for free! Register today : zoom.us/webinar/regi...

There are many people who really believe that not everyone should attend school. And, there's a smaller group that feels very strongly that students have a right to learn & should be supported, and assume more people share this belief. 🧵

Over 90% of reported Nova Scotia Covid deaths have occurred after protections were removed.

The Foo Fighters have spoken: you can stay in the band if you are an AIDS denier, but if you’ve ever played with The Vandals you’re out

On race day I like to run criss crossing the route looking panicked just to keep things lively for the volunteers.

I like to watch the house construction show "Grand Designs" to see the budget blown out and lives crumble. Real sicko time.

Those fucking camo hats on Victoria Day weekend. I get it, the Blue Jays are the only Canadian team, but celebrating US military as the president talks about annexing Canada is all kinds of bullshit.

I really hope Chicago wins this baseball game.

Gonna go out on a limb here @nytimes.com and say the main problem facing authors isn't used bookstores but the massive AI platforms you publish apologia for every day

I was never under the impression "permanent" had a petty solid definition. Fuck right off Rob Manfred.

now you're all going to hear one of my annoyances: when adults say to other adults "look for the helpers." My dude, you ARE the helper. Kids look for the helpers, which should be you, a grown person.

Very much hope journalists will investigate the cancellation of the 2026 annual meeting of the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is a pretty seismic event in Canadian Higher Ed. Sadly, given the state of Canadian journalism, I'm not holding my breath.

Fuck that group and that bar. I recommend writing the venue and telling them that hate has no place in Halifax.

I just think you should have to read this out loud to yourself before you're allowed to post whatever stupid AI feature is trending this week

The conservatives are actively trying to undermine democracy. This shit needs to be stopped through some sort of disciplinary action. Allowing a federal party to continually lie about process, policies, and outcomes is really dangerous.

"HHS said that CMS and NIH would establish a data use agreement...and follow autism diagnoses before expanding their research into additional chronic health conditions." If you don't protect vulnerable groups, you will eventually be part of a vulnerable group. No one is safe under authoritarianism.
