This INFURIATES me, and this is what us survivor advocates have been saying for years. Keeping local police and ICE separate is a domestic violence issue. Victims won’t call the police if they fear deportation, which emboldens their abusers and escalates risk. This isn’t public safety.

Updates on the escalating situation at local produce farm, from the same Mother Jones-vetted source www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8ruMoQH/

The Alt National Park Service account calls itself the official "resistance" team of the US National Park Service. With 887k followers, is one of the biggest accounts on Bluesky. It is the 11 most followed account according to some trackers. This thread will dive into its activity. 🧵 1/x.

At this point I feel the cautious assumption should be that using LLMs conversationally is a dose-dependent psychological hazard. Use them for coding or whatever, but I really don't think the human psyche is well-equipped to deal with things that fake being sentient.

Can't wait until ChatGPT goes down and people no longer know what emotion they're feeling

Speaking as a doomer: we have our uses, but now is the time to keep that shit to yourself. Also pro tip, you can be supportive and useful without personally feeling optimistic!

On the bright side, AI diminishing human cognitive capacity and competence could technically lead to AGI as it’s commonly defined

NEW: Important Context spoke with a dozen people working at NIH about Director Jay Bhattacharya. The descriptions were universally unflattering, painting the health economist as ineffectual, dishonest, ideological, arrogant, and uncommitted to science. www.importantcontext.news/p/out-of-his...

I think it's kind of a tell on the person making the claim, honestly: "surely no human would care enough about writing to know the keyboard shortcut and use it correctly and consistently"

A super cool mod for this would be using collaborative sources like [email protected], encouraging people to go capture new imagery to fill in coverage gaps and let the car access more places.

Alas, yeah. I recently evaluated video summarization models and speedran the "wow this is amazing" to "actually this is rather crap for most use cases" curve that most genAI seems to follow, and I'm not convinced it's going to get notably better.

Realized today that the word "gibbed" comes from "giblets", and soon after discovered that nobody under 40 knows what gibs or gibbing are and you sound like a crazy person if you try to explain it quake.fandom.com/wiki/Gibbing

Something I came across the other day: it turns out there have been more deaths at Liverpool games alone than people that died as a result of the Chernobyl disaster. English clubs were banned from European football for 5 years at one point.

I subscribe to the @newyorker.com, I was part of ACT UP, I knew Larry Kramer well and know Tony Fauci too. Daniel Immerwahr's piece on RFKJr, features this and other passages that need a reponse. 1/

In Immerwahr's case in particular, it's the "élites vs working class" narrative; part of a lifelong an effort to speak on behalf of the latter despite being the former. Not that there's anything wrong with that, until you start going to bat for any random crank who peddles bogus class analysis.
