That one, yes… the Carnegie scientist you don’t want to listen to but know you probably should. There’re more important things to worry about now, but I like that I answered some burning questions.

Shoutout to my undergrad mentee who taught me how to schedule slack messages by holding down the send button

How is that out of the eighty douchebags standing around with nothing to do there isn’t one guy at the end who just says “Hey, ma’am, are you trying to get to your home or something and can I escort you there?” When there’s *nothing* going on, how is that not what the training is?

You can’t have a purge if you’re not killing people.

once again los angeles has imposed a curfew in an area and made it impossible to leave that area without a car

This is absolutely unacceptable. The release, which came in at 7:25 (!) doesn't say anything about transit being impacted, even though "people traveling to and from work" are exempt from the curfew. We can't expect people who rely on buses and trains to find alternatives with 35 minutes notice

Cops shooting a woman at point-blank range for trying to get to her apartment Very protect. Much serve. Cops are great

*Star Wars music*

I'll take the smell of weed over the taste of fascism.

The smell of weed in the air is literally the entire city of Los Angeles and has been the case for, I don't know, 80 years? Showing your ass for the Indiana pearl clutchers is broke boi shit CNN

This is the curfew zone. So many people live there and major hotels are there. This is way bigger than the active protest zone. This is stupid.

Find your closest rally on Saturday and go. You can tell your kids where you were on the other side of this. Outnumber him everywhere. www.nokings.org#map

Reuters, a real news agency correctly identifies that she was forcefully deported, thus taking a flight out of the apartheid state of Israel. CNN on the other hand, uses it to create click bait that she’s on a flight, something she’s previously spoken out against.

@jeremotographs.bsky.social is the first reporter I've seen address with specificity the illegality of LAPD's reckless use of force on non-threatening protesters and reporters. He points out that the ways the police have shut down protests "breach crowd control protocols."

I spent so many years covering propaganda anticipating this exact moment and so many of my peers bought the paid-for contrarian line that even covering disinformation was somehow, itself, censorship. Now we're at the event horizon. Celebration is protest is riot is justification for a police state.

Furthermore, they think this stuff is a political winner for them. If you talk to people in the White House, they’re not bullshitting you in the sense they Really think this will redound to Trump and co’s polling benefit. I do not think, tho I’ve been wrong before, that that would be the case

This is your reminder that *the mere existence of a constitution* is sufficient evidence against any kind of "unitary executive" beyond the reach of the courts.

There's no way the courts can function as a coequal branch of government if every individual court starts from the position of "we have no information about how this admin comports itself, let's start at the beginning". Courts need to use the admin's behavior in other courts to inform their rulings

Authoritarianism at work

Dear @washingtonpost.com, Your complicity is getting really old, and dangerous. We already know one crucial fact: ICE rounds up whomever they can and renditions them to a foreign land *BEFORE ANYONE EVEN KNOWS IF THEY ARE “MIGRANTS”*. The accused are *ALLEGEDLY* migrants.

WELP. Nobody should be traveling through airports in the U.S. anymore.

A shout out to everyone taking to the streets, from coast to coast to speak out in support of our communities. What is happening right now is authoritarianism and fascism. The marines are being deployed in a city with no rational or provocation. They are being deployed to control Angelenos.

Among the other horrible things we’ll experience under American authoritarianism, we should all expect that every last piece of data on us will now be for sale. And that the government will not only do nothing to protect it, they may be the ones buying it or may help facilitate the sale.

Don’t threaten me with a good time!

All the people who have been schizoposting about FEMA death camps for past 15 years are suddenly cheering for a clear violation of the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act.

Will it be able to draw legs?

Everybody needs to boycott the Olympics. Heck the LA 2028 olympics should be cancelled.

Profiles in courage at the news orgs.

"who was president in 2020" remains the most difficult question in the world for a sizable chunk of americans, professional commentators included

Apropos of nothing, it remains one of the most striking things about macOS that you get an "undo" on just about everything you can do—and have since the beginning of time—except for window operations. If you accidentally move a window over or resize one, you can't just hit "undo."

And this is why "the law doesn't matter, the military is going to massacre American civilians, there is nothing to be done" gets blocked. It's just spreading fascism.

Let's all take a moment to read the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. It's only one sentence.

this is good
