DS2 is nowhere near the best game in the franchise in my view, but it’s pretty clear we both have different parts of the series we like. My personal favorite is Bloodborne because it has the best combat, enemy design, and story imo

I personally don’t mourn ds2 that much, but I see your point. Still, ER was meant to be very different from the dark souls games, and I don’t think that two games trying out something new means that From Soft has lost the plot by any means.

Wildcard support and party face. A bard shouldn’t just heal you, they should be able to give you a swath of buffs depending on what songs they play.

For me the only ones that soured the experience were Malenia and Consort. I also think that the dungeon crawl type of the formula is still better in ER than virtually any soulslike (Khazan’s level design is tragic).

I only partially agree. There are plenty of ER bosses that fit into Souls and are still more fun than almost any soulslike boss (Messmer, Godfrey, Maliketh). There are some bosses that are too much, but they’re few and far between.

Than the other Era 2 books. I feel that my favorite was Bands of Morning due to the ending, world building, and powers on display. Good that I finished all these, considering the next major cosmere books will be Mistborn Era 3. (2/2)

Novels. Currently, I’m catching up with Era 2 of Mistborn, while also reading some other of the Cosmere novels. Maybe I’ll post my review of Lost Metal later.

There was also the reoccurring issue of slang that was far too modern. I didn’t find it as egregious as some others, it still took me out of the story occasionally.
Overall, I think it’s probably the weakest Stormlight book, more of a 7.5/10 than the solid 8s and high 9s of the previous
