The back row and half backs were to a man outplayed by their opposite numbers. Don't win many games of rugby when that happens.

Back row and half backs got outplayed by their opponents

Was it telling that he took off Itoje and left Beirne on? Who instantly gave away a dopey pen that possibly cost the game.

It's all Jonny Sexton's fault

And Joe Cokanasiga....

Well he clearly thinks Porter scrummages legally so Lions should be OK...

Any 10 can be made to look shit in a Wales backline post 2023.

Remember that World Rugby's definition of immediate is 'how long it takes to explain how the top 8 European Clubs will be selected for the World Club Championship'

Laughing at one member of the stag party - also a traditional stag party activity.

And those black tipped adidas balls that the French and the all blacks used. One kid used to turn up to training with one while the rest of us made do with the standard mitre balls - it's been about 40 years and I'm still jealous.

Champions Cup only failing because they made it shit.

Top 5 from each of Prem, Top14 and URC plus reigning champs = 4 pools of 4 playing home and away as b4. The pool stages in the previous format were awesome, with the 3 blocks of back to back weekends and actual jeopardy.

Isn't that what Jalibert's team mates say about him?
comment in response to post
Do you get the impression that none of his team-mates particularly like Jalibert, and that he absolutely doesn't give a shit.

Haven't seen all the games, but certainly since the Munster win he's been good. Hope he gets another shot but a lot of good back rows in Scotland.
comment in response to post
His problem has been that he puts those performances in twice a season, so I'm not surprised he's been out of the picture. Would love to see him get another run.

Here was me just listening to the pod on the app, not realising there was such a grooming regime to get you camera ready....will endeavour to watch live in future.

3 points from a possible 10 against Zebre was the killer. The positive is that all the teams in the race are playing sides with something to play for, Banneton and Munster will cancel each other out, and Cardiff and Scarlets are away at Stormers and Sharks, who both benefit from winning. HOPE!!!

It seems to me that they have moved forward this year though? Daft results are still there, but last year was so insipid and uninspiring.

Apparently Quins purposely didn't have the squad watch together today because it could have been a blank again.

He was as big a loss for Scotland in the 6N as Sione. Immense in the URC semi and particularly the final away at the Bulls last year.

6 second rows and a lack of lineout options in the back row suggest that Chessum is being seen as a blind side as much as a 2nd row. Has Beirne played back row recently?

25 of squad of 37 play for PWR clubs.
comment in response to post
I've thought that for a while, but don't most of these girls play in the PWR? Surely base fitness levels are set at club level?

I thought the grudge was based on the fact that it's Jonny Sexton and he's not happy unless he's got a grudge to hold onto.

There's not another Peter Thomas out there, and rugby as an investment looks a lot worse then it did in 2023 when the Dragons were sold, so what happens if a backer can't be found, or they're all similar to the Herford Capital guys?
comment in response to post
In no way was I trying to suggest SRU > WRU, but Scotland now has the number of pro teams it can (almost) afford. With 3 teams the Glasgow success doesn't happen. 3 of those 5 titles you mention are pre-2012 which kind of proves that it's not been working for a long time, even with PT's cash.
comment in response to post
Listen, I don't know details of WRU finances so I bow to your knowledge, but with the exception of Scarlets in 2017ish, Welsh provinces haven't performed, and the funding chat has been going on forever. Also, Dragons found an investor in 2022/23. Rugby a very different investment prospect in 2025.
comment in response to post
It's produced a significantly better Scotland team which sells out Murrayfield - I went to a match v SA in the 2000s which was half full. Not sure you can describe Glasgow's consistent success since c2014 as form, and whatever the viability, it wouldn't be improved by dividing the pot into 3 not 2.
comment in response to post
Is the private ownership a success at the Dragons though? Obviously not on the field, but I don't know what's happening off-field. Best thing the SRU did was cutting to 2 regions and concentrating the talent and funds.
comment in response to post
But what's the solution if a benefactor/owner can't be found? In an ideal world 4 regions would be kept but they've been underfunded for ever even with PT's money. Is it realistic to think the money's going to somehow appear from somewhere, particularly in the current market?

Glasgow with Cummings and Max Williamson do. Not so much without them...

comment in response to post
Scotland's problem has always been the lack of top quality and physicality in the front five. I was positive about this year because of Cummings and the emergence of Williamson who were at the heart of Glasgow's URC win. Look at every top side ever and you'll find quality, athletic 2nd rows.

Ollie Lawrence needs a bit more practice on his Dave Cherry offloads...
comment in response to post
Pretty sure the 2nd row combo would have been Cummings and Williamson if fit. This is not Townsend's fault.
