Wow, what a unique & brilliant debut?! Inkbound is a MG fantasy with a brilliant 'old world' magical atmosphere. The concept is original, the characters are vibrant & there are so many incredibly unique details. We family-read this weeks ago & are still talking about it ..

Is this going to become one of my all-time favourite series? ABSOLUTELY. It has all the elements of a fantasy story (unknowing chosen one, fabulous world, hugely creative magical inventions, brilliant characters) alongside a very original idea - magic running on ink! (1/2) #kidlituk #ukkidlit

The UK is supplying weapons to a country whose leader is wanted for war crimes. How much simpler can we put it?

📚 Middle grade fantasy fans will love Inkbound! 📚 It's written by Philippa Leathley and illustrated by Brie Schmida and Nicolette Caven 📚 Check out the review here: hookablebooks.com/2025/02/21/i... @prleathley.bsky.social #KidLitUK #ReadingforPleasure

Listening to Brian Eno, Bette Adriaanse & Jon Alexander talk about why art matters when democracy is in crisis. Love the idea that art is everything we do that we don't have to - we have to wear clothes, but personal style is art - Also love the definition that art makes feelings happen

Time for a bit of reality - a thread. Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills. The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter. Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

CALL FOR POETRY SUBMISSIONS! Seed/Spore/Rhizome: Ecopoetics of Community and Justice - a new anthology with fieldnotes collective, edited by @pairedaeza.bsky.social, Jessica J. Lee, @alycia.bsky.social & Nina Mingya Powles. Deadline 30/04/25. Guidelines here: www.silverpress.org/blogs/news/c...

Denying refugees citizenship simply on the grounds that they arrived here “illegally” on small boats *when there are no legal routes* for most to use takes cynicism to new heights. If Govt thinks such performative cruelty will see off Reform, they’re wrong - it’s more likely to strengthen it

“The government is suggesting a wholesale transfer of wealth from a hugely successful sector that invests hundreds of millions in the UK" Baroness Kidron criticises Government's prioritising of the tech sector over the creative industries. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

#kidlitUK middle grade fans... Any suggestions for books where the story is focused on a kid who is exposing/foiling an evil plot (especially one that has real world/political ramifications should the villain succeed)?

This is very urgent. The UK government is planning to change copyright law. If you are an artist, author, musician or work in the creative industry please read this. www.chrishaughton.com/blog/ai-and-...

Pro #submission tip...I get that personalising for each agent is laborious, but if you're going to talk about authors you have long admired from my list, maybe just Google and check their books are actually published...

Well this is happy news! Huge congratulations to @prleathley.bsky.social for having a top ten bestselling children's hardback!

@prleathley.bsky.social Just finished Inkbound! Really enjoyed! I spent the book guessing what would happen and every guess was wrong oops! (though I still hold out hopes some of my guesses might be true in later books...)

Happy publication day to @prleathley.bsky.social and this absolute stunner... 'The book crackles with imagination. It’s beautifully written, with broad appeal to boys and girls, and fizzes with indelible imagery...a fantastic adventure' The Times, Children's Book of the Week

Happy New Year! If there's one thing we're looking forward to in 2025 it's a new cohort of Squad writers! Applications open now, deadline 31st March! www.writingsquad.com/join-the-squ...

Uhhh, hi! It's me, Bookshop.org, a place to buy books online where every purchase financially supports indie bookstores instead of some billionaire.

Just a reminder that the books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes absolutely no-one at all. They are BOOKS FOR EVERYONE - and you can never, ever be too old to read them, and to love them!

After spending more than an hour on the phone with Microsoft Support, I have learned: 1. It is impossible to disable Copilot in OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint, or Windows itself. 2. It will not become possible to do so for another month AT THE EARLIEST. (1/?)

A new #StarterPack of writers, well worth following, who are also seeking an agent. If you want to be included, then like, share, follow, ask in the chat, and I'll include you. And to writers/readers in general, please share so we can include more fine talents here #booksky #writing #writers #agents

PSA for writers: if a publisher dangles a contract offer but first wants to know how many of your own books you plan to buy...your answer will 100% determine whether you actually get the contract. Along w/ things like not paying royalties till production costs recouped, this is stealth vanity pub
