Is someone keeping a spreadsheet of all the things we have to fix??

I wrote a little Substack about our trip to Banff last month. Canada is so relaxing and everyone is so NICE. We could stand to learn a few things from them. #banff open.substack.com/pub/happyapp...

Not to state the obvious, but none of them were sent to a terrorist prison in El Salvador. They all had lawyers, indictment by grand jury, a trial or a guilty plea where a judge ensured it was knowing & voluntary & access to an appeals process. In other words, all the hallmarks of due process.

It boggles the mind that we have people who are facing more than one mass shooting event in their lifetime. Any other developed country in the world would have fixed this problem. Our greed and backwards values have corrupted us.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

I know I'm not the first to point it out, but why are they hiding their faces?! Truly.

Failing to acknowledge that we are in a moment of national crisis unrivaled in our history is not only denying reality it is inviting disaster. Failing to use every legal tool at our disposal to resist & preserve our freedoms is a betrayal of every past, current and future generation of Americans.

Been thinking of old Letterman clips for some reason.

The most corrupt administration in American history wants you to look the other way from this. We can't. We need answers.

If this doesn't scream abuser vibes, please tell me what does.

Can I just say it's a little grotesque when you refer to your living parents' money as your inheritance? They don't have to leave it to you. Also, maybe they want to spend it all!

The Fourth Circuit is famously succinct. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

So many folks are enjoying this because they don't even have enough to have 401ks. They hate it when other folks are doing a smidgeon better than they are. Don't forget that we have quite a few really mean, vindictive folks in this country. Especially in the "religious" South.

so my favorite dive bar in WI passed up showing tonight’s Bucks game so they could show live poll results. when the election was called for Crawford, the whole bar started chanting, “Fuck El*n”. the bartender pulled out the good stuff and handed out free shots to us all—an absolutely electric nite

oh she walloped him 🫡

The reason that the US is locking up tourists for weeks in hellish detention centers rather than letting them book tickets back home is because the detention centers are owned by corporations. They are charging the taxpayers fortunes to cage these people, and making bonanzas off their suffering.

🔑 under-discussed point — why they were on signal:

Go ahead, keep complaining…

Just checking in to make sure y'all saw that Lady Gaga #abracadabra performance last night on SNL. It was iconic. And I know that word is overused, but really.

Putin was counting on Trump. He was Russia’s only hope. And Trump is now delivering for Putin.

Jackets win! What an incredible atmosphere, and an amazing experience. Can't wait to do it again. #CBJ #StadiumSeries #HockeySky #NHL

One way to commemorate the end of the third year of Russia’s senseless, criminal war against Ukraine is to read the work of Ukrainians about it. Vika did not live to see the publication of this book, since she was killed by a Russian missile. But we can see her in her words.

Keep in mind, what AOC is doing is what many of us do as lawyers -- informing our clients (and the public) about the law and their rights. They're now suggesting that doing just that is "aiding and abetting law breaking."

🤮🤮🤮

White Lotus is a prize an actor wins. If you do enough good character parts that highbrow critics like you but regular tv watchers don’t know who you are, Mike White takes you on vacation

When I teach info literacy, we use the CUT method (developed by Meg Eastwood as a simpler CRAAP method): C- Current? When was the information published? U-Useful? Is the information relevant? T- Trustworthy? Who is the author? Do they have a conflict of interest? Do they have relevant expertise?

Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl set really seems to have made the worst people absolutely unravel. They didn’t just dislike it - which many people did, from all walks of life, and that’s fine - it really struck them in their souls. And some of them are still growling away. It’s fascinating.

The Usher halftime show came and went... Rih announced a pregnancy during hers and it lasted one business day... We on Day 5 of heated discussion abt Kendrick's halftime show. 5. Whole. Days. And. Counting. ...but I'm supposed to believe it was trash.

Carl Sagan published this 30 years ago, 1995. Bullseye.

Me:

The way he smiled when he said “You try to rig the game, but you can’t fake influence” The combo of being seriously adorable and a hater is 🫶 Also—more men in flared jeans please?? He looked GREAT.

wtf did i just witness

Kendrick’s American flag motif at THIS MOMENT is subversive. Yes, yes, yes.

Seeing "Stop The Thiel." Love it.

Angry man: Why are their tampons in the men's restroom? How will I explain this to my children? Librarian: One reason why we do this is so that a man who has a spouse, partner or daughter with a menstruation emergency can grab one without having to ask Angry man: It just makes no sense!

For the love of all that is good in this world do NOT buy books from Amazon. Cancel your Amazon accounts. Go to the Library (in person or online ebooks!) and support local bookstores instead. Please #BookSky don’t be ambivalent

Oh, how I missed you, ma'am. Glad to be on Blue Sky.

One tiny, private act of resistance: reading long, old books. Feels subversive to a) pay sustained attention to b) something that can't be monetized.

New at Tusk: In a very newsy day, it's vital that we don't overlook the massive assault on democracy and the rule of law that's occurring
