My goal is to create space for more dialogue, & I hope that my show is reflective of that. I have several weeks' worth of interviews and other content lined up already, so I hope that you tune in. You can watch Breaking Frum on YouTube, as well as Spotify and Apple Music. youtu.be/2cTHSStQ7zk?...

The 1st ep. is out. It's an intro to the series & a little about myself, as well as a response video to another YT video recently put out by a Chabad couple, Rabbi & Rebbetzin Vigler. They sat together & reviewed/fact-checked 'Unorthodox,' which I have pretty strong feelings about myself.

So, I have made a podcast, called Breaking Frum. It centers the unique voices of OTD folks, as well as currently frum Jews who are invested in (and allies to) the OTD community.

you did nothing deserving of hatred, and perhaps this is proof that the love itself was not without reservation after all.

you’re all thinking very short term. tech is extremely unstable, and if you build your entire sense of self and career around it you are going to end up just like this guy. it’s fine if you wanna make a shit ton of money for a decade, but u gotta have a plan B

i don’t think this was historically true tbh

this is not a blanket statement, of course. i know many frum people who are sympathetic and *genuinely* listen and understand. but they are not the majority.

saying that our leaving must have been due to some unfixable internal issue rather than dynamics which are fostered and supported in the communities we come from is reductive and wrong. there is still, rarely, any accountability taken.

i really want to commit myself to it, i don’t know why i have such a hard time with it.

starting today i am reading the parsha weekly with a mutual (eventually i think id like to write commentary on parsha but thats another story), and i am trying desperately to force myself to get into the swing of daf over winter break.

you would have a more stable environment with folks who are more willing to engage in tradition if there was better education and a wider acceptance of certain orientations or ways of simply *being.*

and you know what? i think that such communities, esp. frum communities, fundamentally misunderstand what drives people to leave them sure, some people are hedonists. you can't do much about that. but some people leave because of the trauma caused by withholding knowledge & performing a status quo.

I actually think that in certain communities, leadership fundamentally understands this to some extent which is why you see abuse being shoved down and under a rug, and abusers will be protected. It is not just about the information 'getting out', but it is in an effort to keep people in.

(not saying that you believe the behavior above is good or anything of that nature, just commenting on it personally lol)

in my experience (which is mostly with college campuses and students) those wearing the keffiyeh may have toxic views, but it's mostly rooted in misinformation and a lack of education and it can be worth your time to speak to them instead of taking their photo and plastering it on the internet
