So, if they can challenge *any* executive action this way...does that include executive orders?

The phrase "hoist with your own petard" comes to mind.

How about "feckless"?
Like, they just don't give a feck?

Maybe they're thinking, "My old CFLs haven't all burnt out yet."

I remember a lot of what happened, but I have more and more difficulty remembering when it happened because so many other things have happened since.

Just sent a message to NPR (help.npr.org/contact/s/) pointing out this oversight in their coverage. www.npr.org/2025/05/21/n...

Wow, your price has ours beat by a mile! (Probably the food was the biggest savings...we didn't do ours because we decided that was more than we could handle.) Sounds like a lovely wedding!

I doubt it's about $. Changing their minds now would mean admitting they're responsible for their child's death, and that would be unbearable.

What, are you afraid you'll accidentally drop three grand on an ounce of gold?

I think I'm *still* missing your point. Are you saying that email uses more resources than snail mail, not less? If not, what are you saying?
comment in response to

My point is that email took the place of something more resource-intensive. LLMs took the place of something less resource-intensive: plain old Google search.

Not as much as sending all those messages by snail mail.

I thought this question was about LLMs specifically. Those *other* AIs have huge potential. But LLMs are a lot more limited. They might be good for giving you a summary of a long text (like those pesky TOCs), but I'm not sure I'd trust them even for that.

Rise up and do what? Tell me individuals like me can do that will have any impact, and I'll do it. (NB4 "call Congress": My MOCs are all Democrats, so they have no power either.)

If you use "literally" to mean "virtually," what are you supposed to say when you literally mean "literally"?

I never buy any physical goods on Amazon if there's any alternative. I'll sometimes buy digital media there because it's not shipped through their brutal warehouses, but I prefer not to. I really like Thrift Books and Better World Books and am OK with B&N.

"Buy lots of consumables now" sounds kind of like advocating panic buying to me.

It's a tricky question, because in this case the real ticking clock isn't resource use but the damage caused by the use of those resources. We'll hit Peak Heat before Peak Oil. So I don't think we can count on the market to find its own solutions.

But was it overuse of a specific resource that caused them to collapse? Or was it more about the political/logistical/military challenges of governing so much territory?
comment in response to

But panic buying surely won't help.

No, it's true. Also, 73% of Democrats oppose teaching "the creation theory of Catholic priest Georges LeMaitre," also known as the Big Bang Theory. www.snopes.com/fact-check/t...
