Rejecting someone’s transness is an act of violence and egg posting is literally a Reddit meme, the act of equating them is to be blunt reprehensible

Batman gets all his freak out on the streets, while Superman has to maintain a certain reputation in public as the icon he is.

why does it matter what time it is? your body doesn't care, just eat when you're hungry.

you can tell me an interesting story about that pile of candies and the story itself might move me, but it doesn't change the aesthetic qualities of the pile of candy to me in any sense.
comment in response to
post
that's very interesting; see, to me, it makes no difference. I judge it simply on the qualities that I can sense directly.

decide whether or not it's slop, then I don't understand your definition of "slop"!
comment in response to
post
I don't believe anyone who thinks "slop" isn't directly related to the quality of the image. I know people like to believe they can always and immediately tell when an image was made with AI, but that can't always be true forever and if you need to know how something was made before you can (cont.)
comment in response to

if it has these two properties:
1. made with generative AI
2. slop
then it's AI slop

the word "factoid" used to mean "something resembling a fact", implying the lack of actual fact. now people use "factoid" to mean "fun, small fact" and just accept every factoid they hear as truth.

the point of any book, for any person, should be to entertain them.

oh, I was more curious about how this works in real life, not typographically. I tried to illustrate this by using another typographical face that doesn't map to a face I know how to make or identify in real life, like the question mark face: :?

what does "smile with their eyes" even mean? I only know of mouth-smiles.

I believe both things; I believe the chess engine "understands" chess in the sense that it has correct information about the rules of chess and how to use that information to win games, and I also believe that machines can do complex things without consciousness.

yeah but the freestyle machine doesn't have the "unique cooling agents" that make it Sprite "Chill".

a lot of games these days have what's called "Twitch integration", giving stream viewers more or less interaction with the game you're streaming, depending on the game. I'm pretty sure even Baldur's Gate has something like this!

Japanese people love American culture almost as much as American people love Japanese culture, I'd be surprised if you can't find a hot dog somewhere.

every grocery store uses the same PLU codes to sell bulk produce. Raspberries, for example, are 4054 (plufinder.com/plu/4054). this means that all red raspberries will have the same bulk price at your local grocery store, even if they come from different berry farms.

they definitely have commercial microwaves like this in US convenience stores too, you're right on the mark there.

the idea is that if you bought something one time, you're more likely to buy it again in the future, so they better start advertising right away so it never leaves your mind.

I believe biologists use the term "modern humans" to refer to Homo sapiens, and "archaic humans" for all the other members of genus Homo.
comment in response to
post
"human" is the generic term for the genus Homo, "hominid" is the generic term for the family "Hominidae", which includes the genera Homo (humans), Pan (chimpanzee, bonobo), Gorilla (gorillas), and Pongo (orangutan).
comment in response to
post
well that wouldn't work, technically, because Homo floresiensis are still humans, just like all members of the genus Homo, they're just not modern humans.

the difference is that happiness is subjective. I know what makes me happy, and I can trivially figure out what makes others happy too. I have no idea what is "virtuous" or "right".
comment in response to
post
that doesn't answer the question though
comment in response to
post
so how is virtue ethics any different from deontology, in that you have to intuit (or presuppose) what the moral laws/virtues are?

Whoever is telling you to approach random strangers in public is leading you astray. Trust me, nobody wants to be approached in public by a random stranger. You have to be aware of context and when it's appropriate.
