am absolutely over the moon, I've been offered a place on this course. It will include carrying out a practitioner enquiry, I'll have to self fund and there will be many hours work, absolutely worth it. Reading is crucial.

After work job, feeding a newborn lamb. One of triplets, its mom did not have enough milk for three.

Let the lambing begin. These girls are ready to burst, first time mothers in for some extra pampering before their lambs arrive.

Always cherish a gift given by a child, and if it is a bead bracelet or anything wearable then wear it with pride. They chose to give something that reflects their own characte, that is precious. Teaching is tough but also an honour.

This video tells the story of how I found out what happened to my fathers uncles and aunts who were killed in Auschwitz. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iR_...

It is one year since I was diagnosed with cancer, a year since I cried in the ARI carpark before driving home rehearsing in my head how to tell my child. Then I went outside and said a few expletives. I'm now on the other side of treatment and hopefully cancer free.

Snow driving, I quite like it.

I worked on BBC Horrible Histories, and wrote some of the Stupid Deaths sketches Without doubt, my faves were Ancient Greek intellectuals: e.g, Empedocles who jumped in an active volcano trying to become a god… Or Philitas of Kos who starved due to obsessively needing to correct grammar errors👇

Spent the afternoon with my new class starting January, classroom needs book corner development as it has just a small basket of books and some cushions. I have some ideas but any suggestions welcome and appeaciated.

Teacher stuff.

Today I was successful in an interview at a lovely school.I'm so grateful and can't wait to meet my new class. Year began with cancer diagnosis, losses and knocks followed. Thank you new school 🙏

An eye for an eye, and we all go blind.

Interview for school librarian post, interviewer asked why I applied for a job that was a 'downgrade' from teaching. Surprised by the question, I considered it a sideways move. She also said primary school libraries were being neglected (agree). Doubt I've got it as no librarian training.

Libraries are the most beautiful places. Whoever you are, you are welcome in a library, where the librarians will help you find what you need - not to make money from you or scrape your data, but simply to help you, as a public service. I refuse to live in a world without such spaces. #libraries

There is no greater compliment for an author than being asked to sign a book that is just WRECKED. Binding cracked. Pages curled. Finger grooves in the edges. A book that has been read to death, and is still a prized possession.

Celebration for the end of an oppressive dictatorship yet what could come next is terrifying. Hope for peace but fear of further violence. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/08/w...

Following news from Syria, the situation is progressing rapidly. Rebels have reached Damascus

It is my birthday, as requested my husband made a donation to Medical Aid for Palestinians in lieu of a gift. Sister gave a donation to Scottish SPCA and the coffee I love. Teacher so naturally saving the tissue wrapping for class crafts 😉

#Libraries & Well-Being: A Case Study from The New York Public Library

Granite Noir is back this February! I'll be talking to Belinda Bauer and James Yorkston on the Thursday, but there's much to discover throughout the weekend. (Sarah Maria Griffin is coming to Aberdeen. I'm gonna die.) www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/granite-noir/

Mum in her classroom, she told me that literacy was one of the most important things to give a child. My uncle as a young apprentice stone mason, an avid reader and clever working class man. Small Heath roots.

Same uncle died of cancer in 2012. When he was in hospital I asked mum what he needed. She said 'send books' with a suggested list. I sent a parcel of books to the ward, he read them all. Raised by readers. Mum was a teacher, so am I.

I came from a working class family of readers on my mother's side. Reward for reaching a particular level in reading at primary school was my uncle taking us to a bookshop to choose 3 books. It was heaven and absolutely the best reward. Still have a children's poetry book from my grandmother.

I'm a primary teacher, I love the job, the children and the bond that we form with them while we teach and learn. But the jib situation in Scotland is awful, fixed term contracts render us disposable. I've been shortlisted for a school library, will I miss the teaching if successful?

I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!

Any opportunity to share a photo of our beautiful border collie.

I'll use my first post here to celebrate a fantastic book club, ShelterBox book club. Received a subscription as a gift to help me through recovery, thank you to my wonderful sister in law Kate ❤️ Recommended 👍 shelterbox.org/book-club/?g...
