Just finished the Murderbot Diaries and Somebody, Somewhere, and they kind of end on the same note? Both main characters have found their non-romantic person/bot, and have grown to the extent they can sort of talk to other people, maybe.

@sophiecoulombeau.bsky.social stumbled on this blog post - did Hester's letters ever make it to the open web? Just wondering, I'd love to read them. The drawings of the dogs in this post are wonderful; belated thank you for sharing them! rylandscollections.com/2016/10/04/t...

SAM. RUDE.

This would make a clutch epigraph.

This pause in nattering about 18th century figures due to the fact I had a proposal accepted for my library's pride month art show... And now I have to make it. 🙂 Sneak peek work-in-progress. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️ #embroidery

Ok I guess it'd be silly not to expect Johnson in a book of classic insults.

Relatable.

Johnson at a masquerade is fun to picture.

But who amongst us does not abhor the dithyrambs?

Jan Morris, what a card.

Interesting snippet from Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" - I hadn't thought about queer/straight being established opposites (I assume along the lines of strange/normal) before gaining their current meanings.

The hell she did. 😱 Who's writing this nonsense about Piozzi without consulting me!!

Who made this cover, I just want to talk.

You can really tell from his author photo that he had nine children.

Ok this might be the day my research jumped the shark.

Who hasn't wondered what Beverly Cleary's second favorite class at college was...

You realize how much Boswell brings people to life when you think about how he was largely excluded from Streatham, and Henry Thrale is a relative enigma. Johnson loved Mr. Thrale but I dunno why. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hester sure doesn't make him sound great, but he must have had his appeal.

This is a lovely children's series - I particularly appreciate the Marie Curie and Jackie Robinson books which helped me start important conversations with my kids about justice in this world. ❤️

Years ago at a Brooklyn flea market, I bought a huge framed print of this clearly modern painting of Johnson and eventually found it was from a Nescafe ad from 1957. It's weird and I love it.

Gonna be haunted forever by this Encyclopedia Brown illustration.
