With the impending reefing of the SS US, tragically the queen Mary will be the only survivor of the majestic transatlantic liners that figured so significantly in the history of our country and most especially New York City - and she’s 3000 miles away in Long Beach California.

The only vestige of that era in New York are the thousand foot peers built to accommodate the super liners of the 1930s on Manhattan‘s upper west side.

I passed under this bridge, the theVerrazano-Narrows Bridge in 1967 aboard the RMS Queen Mary her last trans Atlantic crossing out of New York.
