I just listened to both versions of 'Pet Sounds', and all I can think is Goddamn what a perfect album. Perfect. It made the Beatles realize they needed to get it together and work harder. The Beatles! Brian Wilson's Beach Boys accomplished a lot but also musical perfection.

For whoever needs to hear this story today: One week before 'For a Few Dollars More' was supposed to start shooting, Lee Marvin - who was supposed to play bounty hunter Colonel Mortimer - dropped out for 'Cat Ballou', a comedy where he played two roles.
