A tree-topped mound near #Portglenone caught my eye. Locals call it Clement’s Hill. The records hint at entrenchments, cannonballs, a 17th century skirmish—and even fairies. historyshorts.blogspot.com/2025/03/eart... #history

Since when does the Attorney General comment on the success of a military operation or make political jabs?? Just the facts, ma’am. If it’s under review, say so. If it’s not, provide the *legal reasoning* for why. What a disgrace these people are

A brooding sky hangs over Saham Toney in Norfolk. The rising ground to the right housed a mid C1st Claudian fort in the midst of an extensive Iceni settlement, suggestive of the complex balance of power, politics, liberty & control in the Roman-allied client kingdoms. #RomanFortThursday #Echolands

The Millpond at Bodiam, East Sussex, is dated to the late 14th century. During the early 20th century, the area was misidentified by Lord Curzon as a ‘tilt-yard’ (an area for jousting). In stormy periods, the millpond still floods, as seen in this image from 2014. bit.ly/3F8Pu6Y #MedievalMarch

A medieval village on the site of the Gunby Estate was mentioned in Domesday in 1086 and is thought to have been deserted when Gunby Hall was built in 1700. You can still see the remains of the village as earthworks in the park today. 1/

Hedgerows are such an important feature of the British landscape for many different reasons - great listen!

Our Northern Ireland archaeologist Malachy Conway is in the news this week thanks to a surprise discovery on the Castle Ward Estate. Archaeological monitoring undertaken by Northern Archaeological Consultancy during the installation of a drainage system unearthed foundations of a building complex. 🧵

Great to see this story featured on national news and on BBC2 Digging for Britain next week (what is shaping up to be a spectacular episode!)
