we've outsourced all our thinking to misaligned robots, and it shows

On that note, "somebody somewhere with an IQ of 80 takes LLM output too seriously" is maybe not the strongest critique.

The challenge for all of us is to understand the limitations of the technology and account for them. But it's fairly clear that the tech itself is here to stay.

The JROTC teacher at my high school was a B-26 tail gunner.
He told us his crew never expected to live through the war. On weekend liberty they'd blow their entire pay in London at the most expensive hotels, taking a taxi from one side of the street to the other and back, tipping 200% for meals.

Used to have copies on VHS until I was a teenager. Do wish I'd held onto them.

The first time I ever saw bits and pieces of Star Wars was in the early 80s, on a scrambled HBO cable channel. So visual quality only got better from there! I.e. VHS. But I was born a little too late to see the original theatrical release. Might have been better than that unique print?

Hen, you know as well as I do that last one is never going to happen. It's like asking them to cease to exist.

You haven't been listening to a damned word I've said if you characterize me as a True Believer. Way to miss the point!
So I'm going to go ahead and characterize you as a damned idiot.
Goodbye.

I’ve seen that already, and you’re right: the reason we are done here is due to your persistent mis-parsing of my position; it’s exceptionally obtuse. I took no position on AGI feasibility, nonetheless LLMs may not be an evolutionary dead end.

That's your opinion. You are objectively wrong to state it as black/white fact.

IF something better is achievable, they may turn out to be something like a small part of a larger system. I won't say "subroutine", because that might suggest something too deterministic, but...

The point here is that this is a longstanding research goal in the field, going back decades, and longstanding terminology as well. And LLMs are the closest thing we have to achieving that goal. So I see where you're coming from and agree in some ways, but this is an uphill fight.

In my experience, police reports can be shockingly inaccurate (like phone games) even without AI's "help".

Might be the same one we have. It's nice. The turbo mode lasts all of 5 seconds if less than fully charged.

Yup, I dug this one out of my archives--scrolling past old cat photos, may she rest in peace--just because of the 69.
Had to ask my partner to help pin a date on that trip!
