I thought Molly Jong Fast’s guest James Kimmel was interesting. I like the idea of revenge as an addiction that could be treated. We need Ozempic for everyone!

We have been listening to Herman Wouk’s Winds of War and War and Remembrance (for months now) when we take longish drives. The books are reminders of where we could be headed.

They are going to say he should not have been approaching the podium. I hate that they always have a way out of the worst behavior. They could have stopped long before they pushed him to the floor and handcuffed him.

They really don’t want to live in a free country. I wish they would chose to leave this free country to find a country that fit their beliefs instead of destroying this one. I remember those bumper stickers: “America…Love It or Leave It.”

This is yet another problem created by the Administration that they will get credit for solving. If immigration law was being applied reasonably, the protests would not be so emotionally-charged.

I just read that Senators cannot be recalled. I am learning so much about the weaknesses in our Constitution and our entire system of government. It is painful.

I started to tell someone about an immigrant reality show but didn’t because I convinced myself it must have been a post by The Onion.

Will there be payback? When will it happen? What will it be? Is payback magical thinking? I have lost the plot.

What if Elon Musk had only 3 or 4 billion dollars instead of over 300 billion?

I don’t know what all you mean by “performative decorum,” but Republicans have been very successful in convincing people that Democrats are entirely defined by a few fringe issues. I do get in trouble with my small group of younger friends over pronouns so I know how stressful that can be.

The Whitmire piece is interesting because I expected him to be singing the praises of Harvard, but he was troubled that his own small university, Birmingham Southern, closed last year.

Thanks for answering my question. I am truly curious about the negative views people have of the Democratic Party. It is as though Democrats have allowed themselves to be defined as a monolith. My friend thinks Democrats should have a version of Gingrich’s Contract With America.

I spent a few days with young people who are attracted to the Democratic Socialist Party. They were adamant that the Democratic Party hurt itself badly by not having a primary. They were upset by Biden’s debate performance and that the Democrats around him should have convinced him not to run again.

Kyle Whitmire, a journalist from Alabama, wrote an opinion piece about Harvard. In it he told a story about the University of Alabama’s raising tuition $1000 a year just to see how much they could raise tuition before it hurt enrollment. Awful and arbitrary way to saddle students with debt.

What is it that people think or are told that makes them think Democrats are not an option even when the country is in a crisis?

I came away from listening to this thinking that he sounded very naive about judges having open minds these days. I think maybe he had an open mind and was projecting that onto the Conservative judges he served with. I think that is why Liberals are struggling. Conservatives seem to have an agenda.

And the people in those “manly jobs” decide to form unions to protect them from the policies of the people who control those “manly jobs.”

The idea of America was always better than the reality. (I grew up in the segregated South.) I was projecting that other Americans wanted us to be a free-speech-loving, multicultural country with a government of checks and balances to protect the advances I thought we were making. Wrong!

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by this. I so wanted the Founding Fathers to be the mythical creatures we learned about in school. Turns out not so much.

There must be a way for you to help them, Hank. We are all feeling panicky about the weak response of some Democrats. Republicans are so good at staying on message. Meanwhile, we censure each other.

After AOC lost the vote on the Oversight Committee, a Democratic Congressman said in an interview that when she first came to Congress AOC was not a “team player.” He said she has indicated that she wants to change that. I guess there are “rules” that keep newcomers in line 🫤

There was a time when I thought it was foolish to have Congress in the hands of the opposition party because nothing would get done. Now I can see that with the wrong people in office and on the Supreme Court, our Constitution provides no real protection from a party off the rails.

We have been watching The Newsroom again. It was made in 2012-2014. So much of it is about the Tea Party, the influence of money on the media, and other scary things that were happening for years before 2016. I truly had forgotten.

If it is done as an official act by the President, and a President cannot be prosecuted for official acts, do the acts really violate the law? Are the only impeachable offenses (high crimes and misdemeanors) murder, armed robbery, etc. I guess I should have watched you and Ali, but I just can’t yet.
