Serious answer: Universal Basic Income and healthcare. We must decouple survival from employment. UBI is not the only thing we need, but we at least need a floor below which no one can fall. Unemployment insurance can provide additional help between jobs. Make college and trade training affordable.

There is no closing this gap without universal basic income. We need to lift the entire bottom 60%. A $15,000 UBI per adult, with $5000 per kid, could close this gap. That's $40k for 2 adults + 2 kids. Tax the top 20% more than they get in UBI to further close the gap and help manage any inflation.
