I'm hoping to explore for the first time next week while staying at Harbar Retreat for their naturist week.

The naturist club I go to has about an almost 40% proportion of women members, I believe, which is pretty healthy on paper. But, in practice, very few of the women actually come to the club - they leave that to their husbands. And single women members are a rarity, but lots of us single men.

This very simple, gentle video brought tears to my eyes.

Our steel industry has been decimated in favour of cheep imports, but the current tarrifs debacle shows how fragile that tactic proves. Plus I believe there is too much emphasis on academic education in this country, when some folk are more suited to practical pathways which would benefit industry.

I only ever wear anything in bed if it's really cold and I need an extra layer!

Although sometimes one comes across particular images, memes, or pieces of writing which sum things up in a particularly meaningful way and should be shared in their own right rather than simply imitated - in which case, it is important for readers to know what the original source was!

I'm often saddened at the number of high profile naturist organisations which consider it acceptable to 'borrow' images from other users without giving credit - to me this is disrespectful in the extreme.

The single life does have the advantage of not being accountable to someone else or their timetables. I've been able to resume a few interests with renewed commitment since his passing - walking, involvement with church etc. as well as joining a naturist club and spending all day naked.

Yes every cloud has a silver lining I guess... tho it's a big cloud!

Altho I've dabbled with naturism most of my adult life, it was round about the same time that I started exploring it as a more full-time lifestyle, after the death of my rather disapproving husband.

so long as they don't interfere with me, I respect their right to wear clothes if they want to!

I took no clothes with me on my walk up the Merrick on Wednesday (apart from a sun hat!) which was a new experience for me, apart from very short 'token' walks. And it felt good - took away any urge to look out for people approaching so you can quickly cover up! Yup, this is me; I'm naked - so what?

I often leave my phone behind when I'm out on a short walk, and certainly rarely check it during a longer hike... it's just there for emergencies.

Tho most of the others are not something one has a choice about, whereas being naked is a lifestyle choice - tho arguably some are born with an inclination in that direction. And arguably eg gay people, do choose how to express our innate identity - to flaunt it or quietly blend into the scenery.

I'd say N probably merits a place on the pride flag.... all minority groups who don't conform to conventional norms and are often misunderstood, marginalised and even discriminated against. But quite disparate in who/what they actually are.
comment in response to

How do you define the difference? I'd say I verge towards the naturist - being something of a philosophical lifestyle choice tied in with respect for nature etc., rather than simply enjoying being naked (tho that too!)

What's the worst that can happen? She says no and you don't get a photo!
comment in response to

Most naturist clubs I've visit specify any photographs may only be taken by (or perhaps with the permission of) a committee member (tho this is regularly flouted).

But it struck me that - after some initial reservations - I myself quickly became quite oblivious to the fact I was walking stark naked past total strangers who were fully clothed - even stopping to talk to some. And it felt perfectly okay. Normal even!

However, naked people doing interesting things outdoors in public places is definitely far more to the point. On my walk yesterday, I met more non-nudists than I ever have before, and it really hit home how totally okay that was for me. Most people were accepting, even affirming.

But perhaps there is an argument that simply making the naked body more generally visible - outside of anything remotely sexual - is breaking down taboos and helping to change people's feelings about nudity?
comment in response to

I agree. Whether or not you have clothes on when doing your thing in the privacy of your own home is largely of no real interest to me. Tho you may have an interesting hobby I'd like to learn more about and if you happen to be naked while doing it, all well and good.

Actually you do have a point. Certainly your stereotypical gay/bi man tends to be a lot more upfront & 'out there' sexually than most str8 people. There again is it actually more a male thing than an orientation one? I get the feeling a lot of str8 men would be similar if their women were up for it!

As a Christian Naturist (what has naturism to do with religion you ask?!?) who also happens to be gay, I can totally sympathise!
comment in response to

Tho, as a gay naturist, I am aware that some fellow naturists are convinced we are only in it for the sex! A (gay) friend was accused of holding an orgy in his caravan because he had two other men in there helping him with some repairs! Would that happen to a straight person/couple?
comment in response to

Being one of the rainbow community is actually not all about sex... we have other interests and characteristics too! Just like some nudists sometimes have sex! Proportionally though, it does seem we gays are more likely to be into clothes-free living than heterosexual people of a similar age.

Maybe we'll add that one to the naked cup of coffee and naked shower category? (Who has a non-naked shower? Unless it's in a prudish public changing room). Naked cooking prob has some interest for the culinary-minded, likewise gardening for the green-fingered. But cleaning, hoovering or bed-making??

It's called 'normalising nudism'... we even get to do the boring, mundane stuff naked 😂

100% agree - I would have had no problem with that at all.

I never liked the Muskrat... and less so the more I hear from/about him! I only use the word fascist when it really seems justified, and, while I'll happily accept the term 'woke', my politics are generally only a little left of centre... well until the centre lurched to the right in recent years!

I was on Reddit for a while, but found it unrelentingly bigoted and hateful. I've been abused on nudist subs for being a Christian, on Christian subs for being a naturist, and generally for being a basically nice guy w. fairly progressive views who will defend vulnerable people being badly treated.

sexualise nudity (particularly for our kids) the greater those threats become. Teach a kid that their body is private, and that certain parts are 'rude' and their curiosity about those forbidden areas is likely to be fuelled... and in more secretive ways than a more open approach might foster!

I think it's an Anglophone problem! We British tend to have a similar over-protective attitude to children and to all things nude-related (indeed life in general) which our continental cousins generally don't seem to share. Worth remembering kids are more likely to be assaulted by a known adult

Funny my observation was that the people who initially fled to blue sky were the good-hearted liberal types who hated the hatefulness (and bots!) of twitter. Sadly some of that has now followed us over here but for a while it was a haven of goodwill and decency.

'Free speech' that translates as spread whatever lies you like, be as offensive as you like; promoting Trumpian agendas; allowing abuse of minorities.... and generally driving millions of people to Bluesky in search of a more humane community.

I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing when you were a kid the internet was not what it is now, if it even existed, camera phones weren't around, so there was no real risk of images of you naked being circulated around hundreds of strangers for their perverse pleasure!
