It’s part of a 20 volume series of novels, this being the 15th. Zola wrote about “the human condition.” Germinal is about a poor, disillusioned man who finds himself working in a mine. Alcohol, sex, cliques, poverty, death, oppression. Zola makes me feel the emotions. This is my favorite so far

I read it before the first Trump presidency. I wasn’t surprised by anything that happened after that. It was written in the early 60s and won a Pulitzer. I recommend it, it’s sobering.

Years ago, during the move into our first house, my husband asked why I didn’t throw out my books instead of packing them up.
Needless to say, he is now my ex-husband.

There is nothing like the love of a dog. My almost 15 year old rescue pup is sleeping next to me and I would do anything for her. A pet is an investment, but also family.
