One girl who couldn’t have been more than 8 led a chant. “When I say no, you say kings!” Her cadence was perfect. Grandmas and moms and grandpas and dads screamed at the top of our lungs in a call and response … Led by a school girl. It felt poetic. Perfect. The future.

You're not "just" one person. You ARE one person. And one person can do a hell of a lot. That's something a lot of people with a lot of power don't want you to remember. But it's something that I don't want you to ever forget. Get out there and make some noise, friend. 🥁💙 #NoKings

But it was completely organic. It started because women in a market were angry. And one of those women–ONE of those women–began to beat a drum. Friend, it's easy right now to look around and say "What can I do? I'm just one person!" But I want you to remember this story and edit that sentence. 5/

Did I mention they made that 12-mile walk (with cannons) in the pouring rain? Because they did. The Women's March on Versailles is considered a signal event of the French Revolution. It's one of the things that took down the monarchy in France. 4/

Pretty soon other women gathered around. And pretty soon they were walking. First they went to the city hall, gathering along the way about 7k of their closest female friends. At the hall they took some provisions (and a few cannons). And began the 12-mile walk ... to Versailles. 3/

Meanwhile, people had just learned that notwithstanding the food shortages and high prices they were suffering, there had been a big banquet at Versailles. So here were these market women, buying poor quality, high-priced bread. They were mad. Very mad. One young woman began to beat a drum. 2/

Exactly. In a normal world she would be FURIOUS at his treatment, and have already fired the men who manhandled Padilla. We are so far from normal. So far.

I was just telling a friend this morning (who has not yet watched Andor) that the similarities between Ghorman and LA/California are jarring. Truly, truly jarring.
