New growth is red then slowly turns dark. I bought it as a tiny pup from etsy. Never seen one in a shop labeled ‘Black Cardinal’ though. Perhaps it’s actually ‘Congo Red’?

I always wonder what it would be like to garden down there. We actually grow so many plants that are potentially invasive in Florida, it’s become a regular joke. Our favorite is the tri-color hibiscus which I think is a ditch plant there!

Reese has thyroid issues. She had the $$$ radiated iodine treatment in 2019. They said it would buy her a few more years. She’s still here at 16. She is old tho
