Reporting LIVE from Go Wokemont, Go Brokemont, it's the US Open! More like the US Open Borders thanks to Joe Biden! If it were up to MY FATHER, a war hero and Republican, this tournament would only be filled with AMERICAN golfers!

My wife constantly says we need to meal prep and bring lunch from home. But I also want garbage and a reason to get out of the office, even if it’s just to drive to 5 minutes to the Zaxbys near my office.

The first three albums from them were all heaters. Then once they got big after “Only by the Night” and started and started sniffing their own farts, it went down hill in a HURRY.

I don’t want to say conspiracy, but it seems like lately it’s become clown car golf, all in the hope of “preserving par” or whatever. Like last year at Pinehurst, and the slopes on those greens, coupled with the sporadic long grass in the sand, it just felt like Catch A Break Roulette.

The other thing with Oakmont, is the greens are lightning, but they’re not stupid sloped like Pinehurst or Augusta. They’re just kind of gradual breaks that happen to be on enormous greens.
comment in response to

Yeah the greens don’t bother me, that’s a skill to chip and putt on that speed. But only being able to hack the ball out of the rough and not play any sort of real shot is stupid.

Oh I don’t want -12 either, but I also think guys should have a fighting chance to advance the ball out of the rough. If it’s anywhere up to say -5, I’m fine with that. This just seems like setting up as stupid as possible just to see if it will upset the pros.

I am fully ready to hate watch this tournament. Going to be just idiotic between the rough and these pins.

Therapy and a hotel are both $200+ and come with an uncomfortable bed and lousy coffee, but at least the hotel also has ESPN for after I'm done decompressing.
comment in response to

The coffee isn't even good, but one of my favorite things on a work trip is to make the coffee that comes in the room, and just sit there and drink it in peace. No rushing, mess around on my phone, whatever is on TV. Better than therapy.

Yeah this seems to be the play Friday. We just got a new store that has all these brands, so we will see what they say.

Wife is in Hokas, but she also has major problems with her feet that sort of necessitated that move. That said, she likes them quite a bit, I just don't think I need or want to go THAT thick on the soles.

Quick glance at their website, and their prices are right in line with any other online retailer, so this may be the play come Friday.

All else fails, we did just get one those running shoe shops just up the road from the house, reckon I could go get fit and see what they say. But I know if I do that I'm getting the hard sell on some $250+ pair that'll be uglier than sin.

Yeah, I don't quite think I want to commit to the jumbo soles just yet, so the Glycerin 21 and Ghost 16, both in that kind of Sand color, seem like the leaders at the moment. Though @panicstreak.bsky.social suggested NBS 860s, the Sand/Apricot combo in those is really sharp too.
comment in response to

So I have a pair of NBS now, but not the 860s and that could be what's causing the issues, and man my knees/shins just really feel it when I'm in them. Just need something with a softer landing to take some of the wear and tear out.

Swimming across the Calibougie to get a quick round in at Harbor Town?

It is wild that they basically never show that aspect on TV. But sure enough, there’s a damn Highway behind a mound there. Just really odd for how remote they try to make the course seem on TV

I posted about sim golf today what more do you want?
comment in response to
post
I know sim golf isn't real golf, but I do know how to get the ball out of a bunker. This particular software it just feels like it's completely random on how your ball comes out of the trap. That being said, it probably took me from like an 80-81 to 84, so it's not like I played well anyway.
comment in response to
post
No joke, I played it like 2 weeks ago not even thinking about it hosting the US Open, and I shot like 84 on sim golf. IN MY DEFENSE, if you hit it in the bunkers on the E6 software, you are doomed. There were multiple holes where I didn't get the ball out of a trap on the first try.

I just don't know how anyone sees this Strike 3, or that call against the Cubs and goes, "You know part of the charm is umps blowing the call and ruining an AB or the game. We don't need automatic balls and strikes."

Bichette is a wild ride on his BR page. Led the league in HRs and RBIs one year...1.2 WAR. How bad was he with the glove to put up 40-128 with a .984 OPS and only be worth 1.2 WAR? Even wilder, a .984 OPS was only a 130 OPS+. In 2025 a .984 OPS would be 6th in all of baseball and like a 165 OPS+.

Feels like every guy on the Rockies in the 90s falls into this bucket. Dante Bichette had some CRAZY good years out there, with the bat at least. Vinny Castilla. Andres Galarraga. Just a bevy of pretty good players.

But the ball does have it's place. I've often said it's a great ball if you're playing an unfamiliar course where you're not sure where to hit, or what's up ahead and you know you'll lose a few. Good way to get good performance and not break the bank. But I personally wouldn't use it every round.

Man, best time to play is the day AFTER some big tournament at your club of choice. Every bozo decides that tournament is the day for a ProV1. Go play the next day and you can probably come home with 2 dozen new balls. Buddy of mine's $40 for 18 and cart private course, we cleaned up in April.

I'm spoiled/lucky in that every birthday/christmas/father's day, I somehow get a dozen or two premium balls. Last Christmas was a box of ProV1s, and then my dad brought me down of box of Srixon Z-Stars with their company logo on them, so I rarely have to buy my own. But if I did, Maxfli is the way.

Can't do the K-sig balls. It's by far the cheapest urethane cover ball, which is good, but the last two versions of it have been BAD with quality control. You legit don't know what you're going to get. As @gamecockcolonel.bsky.social said, the Maxfli Tour line is probably the best bang for buck.

On some level, sure, or it's got to be that they have the money and just don't care. But you can also buy Titleist balls that are $25-$30 just so they can say, "Yeah, looking for a Titleist 3" or whatever in front of their friends. I just can't fathom $55/dozen just to lose half of them each round.
comment in response to

I often wonder why some folks who cant break 100 buy ProV1s or whatever other super expensive ball. I'm a pretty dang good golfer and it eats at me if I lose two balls in a round!

Guy has one Top-10 ever in majors, one other Top-20, and then seven MCs. But sure, Best Player in the World according to the folks on LIV.

I’ve always thought Kentucky was super underrated as far as states to drive through. Like you say, nice hills, the colors of the land are great. A mix of cities to stop in for stuff. Plus if you’re going N-S you’re through it in like 2.5 hours tops.
