It's not that hard. My father accepted me and @bartenderesq.bsky.social even thought we are not Yankee fans.

Terrific article. My daughter (13) has been playing baseball "by the grace of Maria Pepe". (Heck, last night at practice she wore a hat signed by Maria!) The sport is difficult and beautiful. It's a shame it was (and is) made more difficult for girls.

Nah. It was a throw away joke that got out of hand so they had to construct a fake and flimsy. I like some of the bands that are tagged with the insulting label, but I would never use such a thing to describe something I enjoy.

I've always hated that it is a term no one used at the time. The best contemporary term comes from Christgau who called Steely Dan's Gaucho "intellectual cocktail rock".

As a kid who grew up in the 80s I kind of agree. They were hyped to death. Every other band was "the next Beatles". But if I go back to them every five years I can have my mind blown. Didn't think I could listen to them all the time like I can with Otis Redding.

I find it difficult to dislike the Beatles too much. For every goofy ass song they recorded there are four or five solid pop hits.

A music writer from Slate says H&O are not YR because of...reasons. that's the core problem with the term - it is used to belittle music that people do not like, not learn more about music in general.

The term "yacht rock" was created as a joke to mock a certain set of artists from the late 70s. Because it started as a joke, it is poorly defined and gets applied to musicians in a haphazard way. We never a genre and still is not a genre.
