Nothing like an 8+ hour drive through Wisconsin road construction to reinforce the idea that the Midwest needs way way more trains.

Every one of the Twin Cities internet groups I'm on has a different in-group traditional reaction to the monthly tornado siren tests and it's really cool.

Did you know the “weekend” and working only 8 hours per day used to be considered a radical, liberal idea? 139 years ago today, in Bay View, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 7 workers (including a 13 yo) lost their lives to advance this revolutionary idea. A 🧵

What's up with the "Verify your TM SGNL PIN" message? My PIN verification (at least on Android) says "Verify your Signal PIN". Are they using a custom build?

Oregon State University's Open Source Lab run by @ramereth.bsky.social sent an urgent email asking for help with funding to keep services going. They power 100's of open source projects by providing free or low-cost co-location, VMs, storage, mirroring, and more. Repost or reach out with ideas!

@joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social's special from yesterday is pretty damn good and a good call to action. Check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhFS...

Where do people biking to the Xcel or W. 7th area park their bike?

So many businesses rely on US Census Bureau data for decision-making. And the commercial data they buy? It's modeled from Census data. The downstream consequences of this could be dire for our economy. www.npr.org/2025/04/17/n...

Friends, we are suing President Trump and his administration for abuse of power. His tariffs, like almost everything he's doing, are blatantly unconstitutional & illegal.

It would be a smart idea if @governorwalz.mn.gov instructed his government to work with the UMN system to setup robust state-level food testing. This would give students practical experience, farmers a great marketing sticker, and attract people who don't want TB in the milk supply to our state.

I first read this as “If being yourself had worked, it would have worked by now” which is both true and objectively funnier

This is your reminder that Diane's Place is some of the best food available in the Twin Cities. You should go. Especially for breakfast and extra-specially for the pastries.

My story breaking this news exclusively was 7K+ words and had almost all of this in it, and more: www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

This isn't about Harvard, this is about throwing a blanket of fear over the other non-profits that don't have the resources of Harvard.

This is the kind of thing that keeps people with kids in cities rather than leaving for the suburbs. This action shows residents that the city cares about them rather than just catering to suburban visitors.

Happy Rex Manning day to those that celebrate.

UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off. We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos

As a pie in the sky environmentalist, good stuff from Wedge Live.

Guys, I figured it out. The key to downtown St. Paul revitalization is a weekly anti-Trump rally. The few bars and restaurants that are left are all full. Everybody is friendly. The place is hoppin.

Hey, do you like Metro Transit? Do you ride the Blue Line, A Line, 74, 9? If so, please fill out this survey. Metro Transit is considering closing this public sidewalk that connects neighbors East and North of the 46th Station to the train and bus platforms. This is bad for transit riders!!

I have no affiliation with them, but @bonafidemasks.bsky.social just sent out a 25% off discount for the KN95 masks I've been using for a few years with great success. "SPRING25" is the code. bonafidemasks.com/Powecom-kn-95/ is the product. Stock up for fire season!

Well, UMN has officially been hit. We just got an email from our president that an international grad student was detained yesterday. No further details provided. This. Is. Crushing.

Ice chunks float north and then south when the wind switches. But through all of this chaos remember to #BeKindAlways humans 🌊🌊
