Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran overnight, hitting sites across the country and killing top military leaders and nuclear scientists. Analyst @tparsi.bsky.social says it's "increasingly clear" the Trump administration coordinated with Israel, despite some official denials.

Discussed buying respirators with a friend today. A totally normal thing to be doing. And having been tear gassed back in 2020 I definitely recommend having one of the government turns chemical weapons banned in war by the Geneva Convention on you.

At the screening last night Tony Gilroy spoke about why a lot of people in creative fields are progressive. I forget his exact phrasing but basically it’s because you have to have empathy in order to make something that speaks to people. Refreshing to hear empathy talked about as a positive.

"Freedom of speech" has to have some kind of meaning other than "the billionaire who decides what everyone is allowed to say is extra racist now."

Im honored to be featured in the online reader guide for my friend @alissahattman.bsky.social’s novel SIFT from @the3rdthing.press. I offer a recommended reading list drawn heavily from my time studying the labor movement.

Main character energy is OUT, this summer we’re bringing NPC energy. We’re posted up at the bar dropping lore and suggesting side quests. We’re leaning casually near a locked door and saying “I don’t think you have the key for that” when someone tries the handle. We’re staring at a tree.

JWJ was there! "Nike garment workers from Indonesia traveled to Oregon this week to demand higher wages and improved human rights protections. Three workers and a small group of allies rallied outside the sportswear company's headquarters in Beaverton Wednesday morning."

“Shouldn’t we want a society in which you’re not allowed to target a group of people for violence?” asked Noah Arbit, author of Michigan's updated hate crime statute, which added protections for LGBTQ+ communities and people with disabilities. New, @hannahallam.bsky.social @propublica.org

Have teenagers always walked slow or is the constant specter of death compelling me to walk faster?

This Day in Labor History: May 23, 1861. 3 slaves named Shepard Mallory, James Baker, and Frank Townsend fled to Fort Monroe, Virginia, to escape their master. Benjamin Butler declared them contraband and refused to return them. Let's talk about how slaves freed themselves and ended slavery!

The NLRB is effectively closed now. Welcome back to 1935.

Forgot my REAL ID when flying to visit my family and it was not an issue because ALL THIS SECURITY THEATER IS BULLSHIT AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

“There’s no real evidence I’ve seen that indicates more police means less crime,” Melissa Thompson, a criminologist and PSU sociology professor, told Street Roots. “In fact, I would say I’ve seen more evidence to indicate the opposite relationship.”

I have long criticized Jacobin for being terrible, and then I've ignored it for years for being utterly irrelevant. That said, this interview absolutely nails it. jacobin.com/2025/05/trum...
