Jay! Merry Birthmas! You are someone who sets my brain on fire every time you talk about games - I don't know how you have learned and accomplished so much in so little time on this ball of rock and water we call home, but I am glad I get to live here the same time that you do.

A preemptive thanks to @vidityavoleti.bsky.social and @jdragsky.bsky.social (who taught me about that quadrant-style palette) for giving me tools to work with. :)

ALOM seems like it's better without an end goal already in mind, but OTOH using ALOM's palette and touchscreen system and also the quadrant-style palette of "Easy/Hard to talk about, Interesting/Not Interesting to talk about" with a basic endgoal already in mind towards the vibe of AA seems okay.

What I DO absolutely encourage though is for people to put out free/cheap raw text versions of their work and/or SRDs - that leaves the most important reference parts of your work accessible while making sure you're adequately compensated for the time making the full product

In all these cases it's centered around getting out of my comfort zone & taking a chance on a game that sounds interesting. They haven't all been winners! But I've still had fun playing those games with people, making new friends & connections & being able to better articulate my tastes as a result.

Anyway, all this is to say that I'm going to be committing to offering games on Start Playing on weeknights assuming I don't have local pals that want to book me. I haven't used Start Playing much though, so I'd love to run some folks thru some free intro games so I can get some games under my belt.

The good news is I DO know how to cook cheap to get my food cost down to the $20-30/wk range, I've found caffeine pills are the superior way to caffeinate over energy drinks for cost/benefit, and for fun drinks tea is cheap. I only drive to work 1wk/mo. I mostly just need the spoons to cook.

You could and should go listen to my friend's band though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQp2...

Both of these things are things I could see happening - both turn your home into a performance space, both are about throwing the people present into chaos and seeing their real human reactions spread across a small, intimate area. And yes I DO have anxiety about my current living situation, lmao.

The second, more devious dream, was about the true evil of Sam Reich where a merch lottery for Game Changer had film crews showing up to people's houses and then living in their apartment while claiming to be waiting for the show filming to start but actually just gaslighting the lottery winners.

It's true, Ork Borg passes the test. It's wild I forgot about Death in Space though, they were literally selling it at their table at PAXU.

Looks pretty cool at first glance!

No you got it right! I just kept forgetting about Ork Borg!

In terms of my personal physical library, I've got the OG + Feretory & Heretic, Dark Fort, Blood, and Pirate. Itch bundles have given me a few more - but I'm very surprised that I haven't seen any space-related content. I'm not saying it needs it, I'm just surprised I haven't seen it happen anyway.

Unfortunately the first thing that came to mind was "this could be one of the national Gundam in G Gundam if Holland got a fucking windmill robot" and then I realized that almost certainly is not the kind of story you would want to tell here 😅

HELLLL YEAAAAAH BROTHERRRRRR Roadside Picnic rules. The movie loses a lot of the more, uh, fantastic elements due to the limitation of SFX at the time (also I truly don't think Tarkovsky actually cared about the science-y parts of scifi, just the interpersonal bits) but is worth a watch.
