The other women were constituents who said he put his hands in inappropriate places when taking pictures. Hard to know what to make of that but those could easily be misunderstandings. Plus from what I recall, all of his female senate staff members were willing to vouch for him not being a creep.

He was NOT credibly accused of sexual harassment and impropriety by eight women though. There was the one picture that looked awful, except that Franken says Tweeden was in on the joke, and given that she’s a right winger who is friends with Roger Stone, she’s not very credible.

OK, fair, but given the historical pattern where academics fled the Nazis to the US, which made US science the world leader...wouldn't it be in Europe's interest to ramp up investment in academia while America is blowing itself up? Or would Europe rather that we all just descend into a new dark age?

This is an interesting perspective. But I guess I’m confused — why couldn’t Europe scale up something like the Horizon Europe scheme to fund more researchers (and maybe add Canada to it also)? I suppose you’d still need the capacity at universities or research institutes to host, but not impossible…

I’d be curious to chat about what you’re looking in to outside the US. I’m looking at opportunities in the UK and Europe, where governments still recognize the importance of fighting misinformation. Though especially with all science under attack in the US, not sure about funding capacity there.

Oh well. 🤷🏻♂️ If they’re dead, they can’t vote Republican, at least…
(Actually, Republicans want us all dead, but at least the ones who voted for them actually deserve the consequences of their actions…)

Sure, I wouldn’t disagree with that. I wasn’t sure if there would be mutual funds targeted in that direction, but apparently there actually are, according to this article. So, a good idea to consider. www.trackinsight.com/en/etf-news/...

I just got dropped by my financial advisor for suggesting that maybe Treasury bonds are no longer safe and I wanted more of my money reallocated outside the US. If that's representative, it says that this could fall much further once people catch on to how bad it is.

I logged into my TurboTax account, saw how much it cost, and then remembered I had used OLT.com in recent years, not TurboTax. $16 for premium state and federal. The interface sucks but it works. No need for horribly overpriced TurboTax! (This isn't an ad. I'm just a satisfied customer.)

All decent Americans with any sort of brains are deeply mortified by how our "leadership" is threatening your country. With that said, we may need your help. Internal resistance of the sort that might actually help is illegal and difficult to organize. But resistance organized by other countries? 🤔

I work at a different academic institution, not that one.
And, ok. You go on and keep supporting fascists while you wait for the glorious socialist revolution to come. Any day now, it’ll come, I’m sure. 🙄

I’m at a “fascist institution” trying to use social science to find ways to fight propaganda. You’re making idiotic posts on social media, and probably yelling in the streets to people who are never going to listen to you. And you’re morally superior? Ok… 🙄

No, I’m trying to find a way to effectively fight fascism. You are just cheering on inflicting pain on anyone who can’t wave a magic wand to solve every problem in the world immediately. I detest MAGA fascists but leftists like you really are almost as bad.

Wow, so now I realized you’re pro-Palestine, and yet you’re cheering on Trump inflicting pain on innocent scientists as part of an effort to crush any pro-Palestine protest. I guess the hardcore pro-Palestine side has a common goal with Trump, to inflict pain. Utterly incoherent and stupid.

They didn’t “work with him”. Columbia is a huge institution. I assume that 99% of the people whose funding is being cut had nothing to do with the Gaza protests. They’re just cutting funding to be cruel assholes. And if you cheer that on, you are the same.

Fuck you, fascist apologist. You have no understanding of how anything works. Or you do and you’re a sadistic fool like your Dear Leader.

That sounds great to me. I've been working with @profsanderlinden.bsky.social to try to secure funding to move there myself, but I'm worried that if the entire US research ecosystem gets blown up, rather than just particular controversial topics, there won't be the capacity to absorb all of us.

I hope so, but who is "we"? Is anybody advocating for the UK/EU governments to increase funding to support this work?

The media seem to be lined up to report “man on the street” (or in the diner) stories about whether people are falling for these “waste and fraud” frames. That’s just reinforcing them. Instead, go find the stories that turn these frames on their heads.

Interesting, and fits well with this other paper that shows that’s exactly the type of content people tend to share on social media!

Yes — this is a point that I had some oblique evidence for in my own recent work (ow.ly/wNPH50U3bgz), and I’d like to explore it further. I think it’s currently not well studied enough in the psychological literature on misinformation…

I mean, they got theirs. And presumably their kids will be fine, too. Plus they’re all selfish sociopaths. So why do they care?
