The romance is the centrepiece, but I appreciated how moving Mina's parents' arc is despite their oft unsympathetic stances--especially Roshan Seth's Jay returning to his birthplace of Kampala after a lifetime of trauma from displacement.

Yeah, Monsoon Wedding's great as well (and rough too, as you say)--I intend to rewatch that soon too, haven't seen it since it first came out. Salaam Bombay is fantastic too. The Namesake less so than the others, but solid.
