so, again, this all purely from my personal perspective, but the term has some distasteful ring to it. if it's a movement that comes from allyship then i mean no slander, but it still stinks a bit to me and maybe it's just best to let the gays have a few terms for themselves.

i know many wlw couples who really want to highlight their relationship as gay bc their appearance might be misleading to those outside of the community, and they care about being seen as lesbians and not a masculine dude with a feminine chick (which honestly happens too often? ppl are weird abt it)

if "mlw" is being used by e.g. a couple on social media under their cute post, this isn't telling anyone anything, really, unless their appearance is very gender non-conforming so they want to make sure everyone knows they're... well, straight. and idrk if str8 ppl need clarification that often.

if "mlw" is aiming to normalize term use, then it's kinda missing a point. a book labeled as "mlw romance" isn't going to tell me anything other than that someone took default societal expectations of a romantic dynamic and is now what, mocking the gays? shouting 'ally!' in the background? unclear.

even if someone uses it earnestly, i don't think it's the same dynamic as normalizing (e.g. putting pronouns in bio). this is purely my personal opinion but wlw/mlm works for me as: tags for community members to find each other, a clarity on couples' identities, media recommendations, etc
