@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social A benefit I just thought of: We could, for organizations that are meant to be democratically controlled such as a co-op, credit union, political party, union, some charities, even the professional engineers, we could offer free bikeshare and pubtransport fare 4 delegates

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Did you know that a nine volt battery can be lethal? To demonstrate, an angry man from Odessa is about to be given such a battery and introduced to a tied up general who used to work in the Russian MoD.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Hum, Master Jedi, I have a bad feeling about this satellite planet...

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social There are about 8500 petrol stations in the UK it seems. Assume they are each ~ 50 metres by 50 metres. About 2100 hectatres that could be used for other things when petrol vehicles become rare with that back of the envelope calculation.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyzt... Did some yank get drunk one day and fly to England and the first thing they saw getting out of the airport was a pelican crossing?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDzt... Cool traffic light efficiency, at least according to the 4 people, plus or minus 2, people who care about this subject matter.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Real roads have curves. Eh, I'm young enough still to make that sort of slightly crass joke.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Dutch MPs get a free first class ticket on public transport in the country according to their legislation on MP benefits. I wonder if they get free OV fiets bicycles too. In my city, the councillors have some benefits via their bylaws.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social This is 110 metres wide. In the biggest solar system scale model on Earth, Earth is 7.6 km from the Sun & is 65 cm wide (Luna is 18 cm wide and 20 metres away from us). Jupiter is 7.3 metres wide and 40 km from the Sun. Neptune is 2.5 metres wide and 229 km from the Sun

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social The world knows you like roundabouts, as does anyone with sanity and wisdom Aside from adding cycle paths around the roundabout Dutch style, annular or non priority, (not sure what annular means in this context in the image), what do you think of this elongated version?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Uh, that minor issue of climate disruption? Antarctica's ice melting? Yeah, that is making the continent lighter, and rebound from the asthenosphere (mantle). There are volcanoes, a lot of them, and that rebound makes continents more volcanic. Enjoy yet another worry.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social He goes on to explain that a bicycle powered plane could fly on Titan (satellite planet of Saturn, bigger than Mercury). If you don't mind frostbite.

www.youtube.com/shorts/MR3dP... @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Lawyer in Georgia (guess which one) talking about ridiculous cycling law they've got there.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social If I tell you to close your eyes and imagine something like an apple, the Death Star, a map of Britain, or the Moon, does an image like that or at least an outline appear in your mind?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social What happens if you compress Ayatollah Khamenei into a cube with 10 cm sides?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social I got curious how the Voter survey thing in the Netherlands worked. Apparently google translate will work with it. This seems like a very brave idea. Our atmosphere is 78% diatomic nitrogen. Just hope nobody tries to do this by removing one atom from each molecule...

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social I am also thinking that these designs would help to make rural roads (I live in a place 20% bigger than France and with 8% of its population) a lot safer. Every maybe 100-200 km you see a roundabout or possibly an interchange.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Do you happen to remember what the number and type of conflict points are for a vorrangsplein?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.socialI wonder whether you think that median idea is a good one (usually more physical than paint though), given that it means that someone on a bike would be looking in the direction of oncoming motor traffic.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social I forgot to mention that the path is being expanded this construction year to continue this style of the road, both behind where I was at the start and in front of where I ended the video. Even a roundabout:

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Stupid thing needs to be >100 megabytes and >3 minutes.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social I recorded some footage of the new cycle track here

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social ChatGPT may have a few wrinkles to iron out, as found by a post on reddit I saw. Incidentally there are some insects which really do have ears in their legs.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Mercury is a liquid until -39 C (Tuesday for me in February). Any guesses as to why that might be?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social What is scarier than a truck load full of explosives?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KPG... We also have the bad idea of automatically making the pedestrian walk phase automatically happen when they are parallel to the major road (up down in this thumbnail). That also creates a countdown to drivers who can obviously see them.

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Comment under science video: Teacher: "I don't care which units you use, just make them consistent." Student turns in assignment with all the units of energy in litre-atmospheres (101 kilopascals*litres).

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Hey, congratulations on that new job you secured. The Dean of the College of Cardinals asking you to make the next His Holiness a bakfiets so as to reduce their dependents on the Popemobile with fumes, what an honour!

@bicycledutch.bsky.social Do you happen to know of what guideline or regulation determines when pedestrian and cyclist movement across a light railway (EG the Utrecht line to the university) is to be controlled by signal bells and possibly boom gates vs when it is not to be controlled with signals?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social Imagine that I have a circular coin that is one third the diameter of a bigger circular coin. Now, without slipping, I start rolling the small coin around the bigger one. How many times will the small coin have to fully rotate to get back to its starting position?

@rantyhighwayman.bsky.social I also promise I did not do this on Wikipedia, but it is hilarious. At least one country is bucking the Trumpist jackass.
