I am 55. I wander the Earth. I now call Portland, OR, my home. There is so much to explore in life. To the mountains, prairies, and high desert. Across the seas and into the depth of the oceans. Outward to the stars. Full of life and peoples.

Hanging out at a hostel in Park City. (By Salt Lake City for the geographically challenged.) Had planned on visiting Yellowstone-Grand Tetons but the weather conditions took a downturn with snow, freezing rain. Looks like I missed the window for visiting last week. Will have to wait until June now.

Custer State Park

There more sculptures of the sculptor at Mount Rushmore than there were of the Presidents!

At Mount Rushmore gift shop.

A visit to Mount Rushmore.

Wait! Not done yet! I drove over to Pike’s Peak, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans as the wind kicked up, the clouds rolled, and park rangers closed the entrance gate just as I arrived. Drat! So I drove west on US 24 and up CO 9 over Hoosier Pass and into Breckenridge. 1/2

After eating 2 hearty meals. I needed to burn off some serious calories, so I headed over to the Garden of the Gods to hike. 1/2

And then! I had lunch inside the fuselage of a KC-97 fuel tanker. Fir real! Called The Airplane Restaurant in Colorado Springs. Yes, it really did use to fly fueling missions for bombers and fighter jets.

Then, I drove down to Colorado Springs to visit the patisserie/chocolatier shop of a friend of a friend. Bought some truffles. They were delicious! Cacao Chemistry if you want to check it out.

Colorado State Capitol

So what have I been up to since breakfast at Jelly cafe yesterday? Well I ambled over to the Colorado State Capitol building just down the street. 1/5

Every major US city has experienced sharp increases in homelessness the last 5 years. But Trump would rather meet with wealthy sheiks who fund terrorism than deal with the problems every day American families face.

On my walk to the cafe.a house converted to an apartment building. A young man sleeping on the sidewalk, a gargoyle protecting the sleepy residents of another apartment building.

Walked to the Jelly Cafe for breakfast. Worked the last seven days. So this is a pleasant break.

Enjoying a coffee on my last morning at the Ember Hostel before heading out to wander.

A strange cloud on the horizon.

Drove up to Loveland Pass in the Colorado Rockies. While I was an OTR truck driver I often pulled high cubes and had to use US 6 through the pass because the van trailer was too tall for the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnel. But I never got to stop as there was no parking spaces for semis on the pass.

One of the positives about gig work is that you have the opportunities to explore different parts of the country while traveling and earning income at the same time.

There is a restaurant… in an airplane… in Colorado Springs…😳

A peaceful evening by the fireplace at Ember Hostel.

A friend of mine and I traveled to Colorado in the summer of ‘90. First activity we did was to drive along Clear Creek. Seeing some guys tubing on the rapids, we rustled up some inner tubes from Walt’s Tire Service in Golden and spent the rest of the day floating Clear Creek.

More pics of the Ember Hostel. There is a little alcove area and the outdoor fire pit. It’s been raining last 2 days so we can only admire it from inside. 😏

The Ember Hostel in Denver. Has a nice lounge area. I am staying in a 16 person mixed dorm.

Staying at the Ember Hostel in Denver. Photos later.

Hanged out with the grandkids today on May 4. My grandson Wilder’s birthday. There were lightsabers.

Flew back to Kansas City on Friday to pick up my car. Didn’t get into after midnight thanks to weather delays and there were several inches of hail on the ground in the car lot. No damage fortunately.

A bacon and blue cheese burger with fresh cut fries at Northwest Portland Hostel Cafe. Pretty damn tasty.

Visited Ken’s Bakery at NW 21st and NW Flanders. The bakery is owned by Ken Forkish, the author of ‘Flour Water Salt Yeast: The Fundamentals of Artisan Bread and Pizza’. Enjoyed this passionfruit tart.

Staying at a hostel in Portland.

A drive through the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon and the Columbia Gorge with fantastic views of Mount Hood. #Oregon

I am rain god. The dark clouds follow me everywhere. Even in Wyoming.

The mountains, Gandalf! The mountains!
