“Crises [can] leave a field vulnerable to false prophets that promise illusory quick- fixes. Right when Psychology is vulnerable, society is going through an AI hype cycle.”

Burned out autistic academics for trans rights

This is unfathomable... The UN must intervene, all governments and organizations who can, must intervene and deliver large scale humanitarian aid to Gaza.

✨ New paper from the lab! ✨

i wrote this over 5 yrs ago and replace 'ml model' with 'genAI' and the pattern still holds reallifemag.com/fair-warning/

Ethnic cleansing.

Over 100,000 people are marching through The Hague against Israel's war on Gaza. Wearing red clothing and forming a line, they are demanding the government draw a red line in its stance against Israel. It's the largest protest in the Netherlands in 20 years.

Worth repeating

These are indeed the important questions we should be asking ourselves at this time of AI hype. Who benefits? Who makes money from the dominant narratives? Thank you @smittermeier.bsky.social !

Please consider who benefits from you becoming complacent, doing less critical thinking, less fact checking. Who benefits from devaluing yours and other people‘s labor. From your data.

New paper from the lab 💫 🫖 =/= 🖥️ =/= 🧠

TL;DR: AI is so much dumber than you think, aka it is not actually „intelligent“ at all, it can‘t remotely do what most people seem to think it already can, it‘s just good at faking human „thinking“. There is no ghost in the machine. Please stop falling for the grift.

I hope I never make anyone mad enough that they set out to rigorously, scientifically determine that I'm not only wrong, but that even in the absolute best case scenario for me, with the best possible conditions, I still could not be within the same time zone as right. 1/

It's good that this (quite long thread) goes some way to deconstructing some of the blizzard of hype around consumer "AI" offerings. Can we have some more plain old "machine learning" stuff back that may actually work in domain specific contexts again and less slop, please?

I am seeing news that AI companies face “unexpected” obstacles in scaling up their AI systems. Not unexpected at all, of course. Completely predictable from the Ingenia theorem.

🤢

hey EBU, if you don't let a genocidal nation take part, you don't have to worry about a genocidal nation winning #Eurovision

Very excited to read this paper.

NEW paper! 💭🖥️ “Combining Psychology with Artificial Intelligence: What could possibly go wrong?” — Brief review paper by @olivia.science & myself, highlighting traps to avoid when combining Psych with AI, and why this is so important. Check out our proposed way forward! 🌟💡 osf.io/preprints/ps...

Je zou natuurlijk ook bezorgd kunnen zijn over de mensen in Gaza

If a uni withholds a degree from someone who has met all the requirements for that degree bc they delivered a speech that reflects that student’s ideas and political commitments, then the uni is admitting that degrees are awarded for obedience, not intellectual achievement. Which, hey, may be true.
