I may have been in architecture school over a decade ago but this still checks out. So many architecture professors were into experimental tech for the sake of the tech, often overlooking that it was straight up bad or not useful.
So I'm disappointed but not surprised that your profs are like this

I'm not really trying to say anything other than I know sometimes people like to claim audiobooks aren't reading but I think ultimately that's not a very useful or helpful argument, as most of that kind of gatekeeping generally proves itself to be

I have this book! It's excellent. The author has since started a successful dragon collecting online game which has quite lovely art. :)

I feel like ps3 - ps4 was a big jump, but I haven't seen anything amazing from the current gen in comparison (not speaking for xbox as I didn't have one). But maybe I just got old and happy with what I was used to. Like genuinely I don't know if i need games prettier or better than rdr2

Indeed! I suppose one could potentially in the future say "there is no life an observable distance from here" but I wonder if we could reach even that.

(The cursor icon is Geralt's sihil from w3, because the phone is named Sihil, because mainly of the magical runic inscription, which loosely translates to "death to the motherfuckers". I enjoy the playing with the trope of the powerful sword with a magic inscription very, very much)

Thank you! It's so tricky, these books. I think they can still be the thing that meant something to us before? I don't know, I hate it too. I suppose it's good to know so we don't continue to support her.

So I will keep those, because Grandma Florence was such a wonderful lady who tried hard to be a real grandma to me from 4000kms away.
But American Gods is just a book i liked written by a man who turned out to be vile. No lovely grandmothers involved. No, I think I will donate it too, actually

> enjoyed. She checked I hadn't read them, & bought the 1st 4 novels, sending them one by one to me in the post. She read them so she could discuss them over long-distance call with me. She even timed it so she could send the 1st Australian edition of GOF to me for my birthday in August.

(In the year 2000, my pop (grandad) remarried after the death of my grandmother 4 years earlier. They lived on the other side of the country. To connect with her little almost teenaged step-grandaughter, my step-gma who knew i loved books researched what was popular in my age group & what genres i >

Sorry, I don't actually believe that the average person is a raving sociopath who would set an orphanage on fire for 5 bucks, but even if that WAS true, the average person also isn't calling the shots here

I don't know how to make them understand that there is a joy in the struggle of slow creation. Of turning an idea into an imperfect object, of taking that object and polishing it until it gleams with the light of that shining idea.
