Well you see, at some point, the drugs wear off and you go back and read your tweets.

God I hate it here somedays. It’s always sad to see stupidity and chaos conquer order.

I took a drive in one part of rural Indiana the other day and was surprised by the lack of Trump signs and flags. (I only saw one old campaign sign) And at least one prominent trump flag in my neighborhood has come down.

This is absolutely the dumbest timeline.

It can’t be. It’s gotta be at least 6.

Not going to lie. It would be hilarious if he started trolling with posts about election fraud electing Trump. Get MAGA all fired up about voter fraud. Speaking of, I’m not on X, what does MAGA think of all this?

Does Resistance Elon come with the Kung Fu grip? Or is that the one with the Medicine Box accessory. (It opens to show half a days pills inside!)

This was my question too! I really hope he has an accomplice that has to distract the clerk by asking about the various options for $12 bottles of water.

Same, but I’d code different things.

I HATE small problems that everyone knows about, everyone hates, the fix is simple, and no one will do a damn thing about it. I know the world is hard but if we start dealing with the things we CAN fix then it gives us energy to tackle the rest. Resist Mediocrity ✊

Yeah. I did that cycle for years. Eventually I learned to just not get to step 2 and usually it’ll go away. (Or better yet, my heightened awareness of the problem finds an existing solution.) But I’ll note them down and if it keeps coming up, it’s worthwhile. (It rarely comes back up.)

Not OP but IMO, the best you can hope for is grammar, syntax, and basic analysis. It’s only judge of “good” or “bad” is based on randomish selection of trained information, and unseen biases. I think it’s a step to review, but not apply blindly, on the way to real humans and real feedback.

It’s really wild, and probably chalked up to marketing, old Sci-Fi and breathless media. But if you handed someone a modern airplane (which has autopilot) and told them to fly it from LAX to Newark they would never attempt it. Even if all they had to do was press a button. But AI? Why not.

This is the equivalent of them throwing buckets of paint at the wall and then wondering why their room is a mess and their walls don’t look like a HGTV remodel. I find that most people frustrated or annoyed by AI don’t understand at all how it works, or how to use it as a tool.

I mean why? Why do these people NEED so much? What is wrong with them? Imagine if people could just be happy.

I wish I didn’t have morals or scruples because it feels like MAGA is training a great target pool for scams. Damn me and my nature.

It’s absolutely maddening. It’s like we’re all at a dinner party and three of the guests have suddenly caught on fire, and everyone just continues on talking about the weather and their kids.

I live in a pretty red state and I can report that no, in fact, democrats aren’t.

I think because no one’s giving them a better alternative. There needs to be a third choice.

I get that the rich people want their mergers and their money, but I would be a CBS fan for life if they would just stand the fuck up for their rights.

Weird, because Vance is an American Citizens, and he can't seem to do shit except fail upwards.

You know, maybe people would think about their votes a little more deeply if it were real chainsaws. "Sorry Greg, I know you voted for the "change" candidate, but the change they are making is taking off 6 inches of femur... bite down on this please..."

Well, its all in the delivery - did she say "We're all going to die (someday)" or was it "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!" while pointing at a giant hippo? or was it "we're all going to die..." while holding a chainsaw and a knowing look? Context is important.

If our government was measured on happiness indexes rather than just GDP, then maybe we'd build better institutions. We also have to rebuild a better sense of "honor" and ethics. People's words need to mean something again.
comment in response to post
I prefer to think of it as: "The people running these institutions aren't doing so in your best interest." I'd argue we need more and BETTER institutions. But we need to align them to the rewards that actually make a difference - not just "Make more money".

And apologies. I read the replies out of order. I think we’re saying the same thing. Social media is hard.

I’m not advocating for journalists to become devops. I’m advocating for more solutions that commercial enterprises.

As a software developer for 30 years: pish posh. There are lots of solutions. You don’t have to put up your own server. There can also be open solutions that are not profit oriented and that allow for full export of data in an importable format.

Here’s my problem with Substack: it’s still someone else’s platform. I don’t understand why journalists, who have seen platform after platform rise, get corrupted, and then fall, decided to jump on the next platform to build a business. Everyone would be better off owning their own distribution.

I’ll make them a deal: they can post the 10 commandments in schools when our politicians decide to follow them. Oh also, bring back public stoning of politicians who lie about following the 10 commandments or who don’t follow the Constitution. In for a penny…

And then followed up with the mother of all equal rights amendments. And some additional rights like health, welfare, and education. You know. Basic human rights.
comment in response to post
I think smart people should, right now, be drafting an amendment that resets politics. Corporations are not people with free speech or rights. Public campaign financing. Expand the court, expand the Congress. Reform voting. Etc. And then run on that for every election until it passes.
comment in response to post
It is maddening that everyone is just sitting by letting it happen.
comment in response to post
I think the Constitution is pretty dead at this point. We’re a zombie democracy. Even if Trump were to leave tomorrow, he’s shown that everything we took for bedrock, was just swamp. Without real reform, we’re done.

I’m all for public supper. Maybe if we had more public suppers people would be less mean to one another.
