The archive took the message down, y’all.

Just went to the #NationalArchives website, and the announcement shared below has been removed. It seems the question of whether historical research is a "legitimate business need" is moot, at least for now... www.archives.gov/college-park #Archives #NARA #ArchivesAreForEveryone #speccolls 🗃️📜

“ICE holding a record 59,000 immigrant detainees, nearly half with no criminal record, internal data show”

This image is now absolutely everywhere over European media lmao

hopefully his departure will make a small difference or maybe even a vas deferens

Or at least Balls neutered. So many opportunities here.

We all have a lot of questions about this. It seems to apply only to NARA II at College Park, as none of the many other NARA facilities have the same notice on their websites. Someone should ask Marco Rubio about it since he is the Acting Archivist and has nothing else going on right now.

Let’s have a lawsuit @historians.org @oah.org

Authoritarianism comes for the archives. (Whatever the proffered reason for this, NARA has always been understaffed and under-resourced. Nevertheless, archivists welcomed students and the public, along with scholars, which created incredible opportunities for learning.)

This is certainly terrible. I don’t want to downplay that. But you can’t stop history from being written. We’ll keep on doing what we’re doing. Historians of women, BIPOC, and lgbtq+ have long learned to read against the grain, find the voices, and uncover the stories.

this is some bullshit. the Supreme Court can say what it wants and Congress can play possum while the republic crumbles, but authority in this country comes from the people, and these are our documents they’re restricting us from, not their documents. We have the right to see and study what’s there.

We’ve been concentrating all our efforts on the erasure of digital history, but I’ve been worried about possible restrictions to actual archival material. It looks like this applies to visitors only so I’m assuming that historians don’t count but I’m unsure what “business” means.

I'm sorry, what? Words mean things, people!

I'm proud of them.

What makes DMVs inconvenient sometimes is not the people who run it, but the people who use it. DMVs have done an amazing job trying to control the chaos.

CW: racism, dehumanization, child harm It's not that bizarre, it's a technocratic spin on the racist trope of Black (or Brown) people being "alligator bait". There is no shortage of racist cartoons about it. Y'all need to understand that we are dealing with bedrock American racism.

The GOP sell-off of our public lands might be out of the budget bill for now, but don't lose sight of this.

Computers used to scream every time they connected to the Internet. They knew. They tried to warn us. We did not listen.

Thankfully we have good news on something. But Mike Lee will try this again.

Note: I don't care if you are an academic. I will block you for foolishness.

Just randomly thinking of the press response to Biden’s “big fucking deal” hot mic after signing of the ACA by Obama.

"The Mask" by @brunostrasser.bsky.social and #thomasschlich is out today. I have listened to talks and seen some papers and cannot wait to read this.

Janet Jackson once showed her covered up nipple on live tv and lost her entire career.* *(And it was really Justin who did it)

Donald Trump said 'fuck' live on TV. Something the Democrats can finally get angry about.

in which the president of the united states comes to understand that forging peace in the middle east is actually quite hard

wow he didn’t even thank them for their attention to this matter

Donald Trump lost control of himself in front of the world's media. Here's why this is just one more failure of the Biden presidency My latest for the New York Times

a result of individualism without personhood

“The Trump administration said on Monday that it would open up 58 million acres of back country in national forests to road construction and development, removing protections that had been in place for a quarter century.” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/23/c...

Obama wore a tan suit once.

I went out to check on my plants at 7am. Had to go back inside at 7:30 because I felt like I was going to pass out. It’s no joke out there, friends.

At last, we are free from the tyranny of Cham, Abingdon-on-Thames, and Upper Saddle River!
