Because they were trying to attract senior software developers and it was for an excepted term (vs. the competitive service), 18F/GSA was allowed to hire straight to GS-14 and 15 (I was a GS-15 too), but most of those at least had some real-world experience in software developement

It is unclear what skills exactly that Coristine brings to the table at DOGE besides an apparent lack of ethics and loyalty to do anything no matter how destructive it is. Likely the same excepted terms that 18F would use (disclosure: I was hired as a GS-15, but I had 15 years of experience).

By touting DOGE as a tech project driven by "AI-first strategies", efficiency mandates, and entrepreneurial logic, Musk handed the GOP a framework for gutting the government. Now they can use it whether Musk is there or not. As @wired.com reports, even with Musk gone, DOGE is "busier than ever."
