I don't think we're in a democracy anymore. Unmarked secret police kidnapping people off the street? A dictator mobilizing the military against civilians? Defying court orders? Ignoring due process? Arresting political opponents? Democracy has left the building. We CAN & MUST get it back, though.

When I did missions for Human Rights Watch in Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi, one of the things we looked for were illegal prisons, places where people were being detained incommunicado without proper facilities. This sounds an awful like that. (Link to a chapter on that research below.)

My office, @brooklynda.org, and the New York Department of Financial Services stopped a group of cryptocurrency scammers that targeted Russian-speaking New Yorkers using deceptive ads on Facebook. Hundreds of New Yorkers fell victim to these ads and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
