The incentive is that they left money on the table by underestimating demand with not one but two major IP tie-ins. If the money is X and it could have been 2X, that’s incentive to change for almost any business.

Charitably, it may mean rather that the essays, etc that are the indispensable means of fulfilling the ends of (1) are now impossibly compromised. I don’t think that’s true, but I also don’t take the author to be saying that the project is little more than answering prompts.
