Authoritarian governments are fundamentally transnational organized crime syndicates, or what @moisesnaim.bsky.social calls “Mafia States.” youtu.be/iftBTs8FrA0?...

"The problem with ad hominem is that it never goes beyond pathos: moral judgements are used to elicit audience anger, outrage or disdain for the opponent. Logos is completely foregone and the speaker’s ethos is founded on a logical fallacy only." ethoscrs.com.au/ethos-the-ne...

@emmalbriant.bsky.social discusses the current threat environment to academic researchers. "What we are talking about here are coordinated multi-vector attacks from often well funded political actors or governments." From the Cambridge Disinformation Summit. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWep...

At best, this split-screen is evidence of misinformation. Quite plausibly, one of these two is exploiting the tragic event for political propaganda.

Multiple orgs that did rapid response analysis of content and rumors during chaos in 2020 don’t exist anymore -ie, Jim Jordan et al killed SIO. Some pretty handy tools -like Crowdtangle- no longer exist. The Twitter/X API costs $$$ now, so OSINT tools died. And we need these things more than ever.

Another X screenshot of how misinformation, and plausibly political propaganda, manifests right after a deliberate act of violence.

I note, in my recent talk to UK and U.S. lawmakers, that there are fundamentally four global meta crises: --transnational organized crime --monopolized media & tech --weaponized grievance --cowardice www.linkedin.com/pulse/addres...

I have also noted that I sense we are in the most acute information and accountability crisis of our lifetimes. I even quote Steve Bannon to help illustrate the fallout. www.linkedin.com/posts/jagoli...

AI chatbots are spreading fake news: internet users are turning to AI bots for verification, only to be given unreliable and inaccurate results. Vedika Bahl explains in this edition of Truth or Fake. www.france24.com/en/tv-shows/...

Moments like this are when you should be educating yourself, so I've put together this playlist of podcasts about the various philosophical ideas that I've based my work defining Verification, Deliberation and Accountability as pillars of healthy democracies around open.spotify.com/playlist/3NJ...

Poll inferences need to look to the popularity within the population of aggrieved-and-more-easily-radicalized. High popularity in that subgroup is a force multiplier because the latent threat of violence seems to increase political cowardice. www.linkedin.com/pulse/addres...
