I agree with you, Raph. I grew up with enough criticism to last me a lifetime. Now it stings for a moment, and then I turn and walk away.

When I saw this cartoon in The New Yorker, I thought of you. ๐

I have a pair of Eastern phoebes nesting under the structure I had built to protect the generator from snow sliding off the roof (obviously a clever couple). I hear them calling to one another early each morning even before itโs light.

Do you mean psychologically prepared or somehow prepared in other ways?

A poem for you, Jen.

I found his โA Song on the End of the World,โ which isnโt the poem youโve referenced here, but perhaps the overarching theme is the same(?)

It was certainly wise of you to put in the irrigation system.

In some ways itโs dated, but the universal truths come through.

Lots and lots of granite here, thatโs for sure. If I recall correctly, you have some lovely red rocks there. ๐

If need be, Iโll do the same, Jen. So far my experience with argumentative types is that they move on if I refuse to engage further.

It made me laugh when I saw it, so I thought it might do the same for others. ๐

Have you ever read Anne Morrow Lindberghโs Gift from the Sea, amy? She uses shells rather than fossils as metaphors for life circumstances, but you might enjoy it.

Itโs just this side of โrewildedโโ not an English garden by any means.

I am! ๐ค When I was deciding what to plant, I had three main criteria: plenty to attract and satisfy a variety of pollinators; flowers that would bloom in May, others in June, and so forth through Augustโby which time the trees would begin changing color; many delicious shapes, sizes, and hues.
