Probably a good day to kick some money toward the local nyc media all over this story. Especially @thecity.nyc.

"Simon Gutierrez, a 17-year-old high school student who organized yesterday's Roblox protest against ICE, said that he wanted to attend the IRL 'No Kings' protests this past weekend, but his older sister said no." (via @taylorlorenz.bsky.social) www.teenvogue.com/story/kids-a...

NYC mayoral candidate and state senator Zellnor Myrie is speaking outside 26 Federal Plaza in NYC right now. He says as a lawyer, the legal terminology for Brad Lander’s arrest is “fucking ridiculous”

We've updated our story on Lander's arrest with the latest statements from his fellow candidates in the Democratic mayoral primary, other NYC pols calling for his release, and the Department of Homeland Security. Read it here: hellgatenyc.com/brad-lander-...

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

the crowd calling for Brad Lander’s release from ICE at 26 Federal Plaza has moved to Foley Square

This AP photo is unreal.

Well, I have a piece in the works about this very sort of thing. Scary moments in the hallway here for Lander, who keeps asking where the warrant is for his arrest

Trump on the Ayatollah: "We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now."

Detroit, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Baltimore each reported fewer murders through May than any year since the 1960s, and New York City reported the fewest murders ever reported through May 2025. jasher.substack.com/p/why-i-thin...

Nielsen says streaming has "reached a historic milestone." According to its monthly report about different TV viewing modes, called The Gauge, streaming's share of all TV usage outpaced the combined share of broadcast and cable "for the first time ever" during the month of May.

It's possible to be a) close to having a nuclear weapon, b) not have yet decided to go for a nuclear weapon and c) not yet have a nuclear weapon — ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

Same energy

Dude I just came across a guy selling guillotines under the algo-speak euphemism “lemonade stands” on the TikTok shop. Welcome to 2025, the year that started off with people emptying their drafts & deepest confessionals bc they thought the app was going dark

I’ve seen a lotta iterations of a lotta uniquely weird stuff on this beat. I have not seen anything quite like the last couple hours on MAGA Twitter

NEW: Data broker sites were allegedly used by the Minnesota shooting suspect, authorities claim, highlighting the danger of an industry that freely sells your personal information. @lhn.bsky.social reports www.wired.com/story/minnes...

Just remarkable to see this in writing: “You exploited the murder of a lifetime public servant to post some sick burns about Democrats.”

A top staffer to Sen. Tina Smith emailed Sen. Mike Lee’s top staffers on Monday about “how much additional pain you’ve caused on an unspeakably horrific weekend” Full emails below

He did this for the (virtual) G20 in Nov. 2020 to go golfing. He heavily disputed that the reason was to go golfing, but that’s where he went right after. Also dipped out early from the G20 in 2018

Somehow, the mighty conservative foreign policy hawk duo of Ari Fleischer and Hugh Hewitt ended up talking about the LA protests on Hannity, and Eric Trump was the one booked to talk about Iran. I mean, maybe that’s how they drew it up? Or an emergency VIP booking & reshuffle

Oh boy, Eric Trump is burning both ends of the candle with another Fox News appearance. He started the day on Fox & Friends announcing the Trump smartphone

I might have to once again put up the sign… that America has not had a traditional “rally ‘round the flag” effect in a long, long time (9/11) www.businessinsider.com/trump-approv...

Well idk if this inspires confidence in anything or anyone, but Pete Hegseth is gonna be on Fox News this hour with Jesse Watters

A smattering of Cuomo lit in Mont Haven. When some subway riders gave the canvasser some shit, they replied “Hey, I’m workin’ here…”

We don't know much about the new Trump Mobile phone or the company's data plan, but we sure do have a lot of questions. www.wired.com/story/9-urge...

Exactly 11 months ago, I broke the news that Zohran Mamdani (ever heard of him?) was planning to run for mayor. I think my analysis of his candidacy has held up quite well. www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

The irony here is that Junior is saying the shooter's motive "was so predictable" when he ends up getting it upside down and does the exact same plug-and-chug thing he's talking about

Allow me to briefly revisit one of my favorite Cuomo thumbnails from my time at BI

PUTIN WAS KICKED OUT OF G8 in 2014 WHEN HE ANNEXED CRIMEA. TRUDEAU WAS ELECTED IN 2015. THANK YOU FOR THE ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

For months, @wired.com has been working on something about this moment's big fights: pushback against immigration raids, Tesla Takedown, LGBTQ+ rights. When we started, we didn't expect to publish following some of the biggest protests of Trump’s second term. www.wired.com/how-to-win-a...

EVERYONE go read the "How To Win A Fight" package that @waterslicer.bsky.social has put together It features: • Stories • Guides • Videos • A Choose Your Fighter quiz • A WIRED zine you can print Given all that's happening, this feels more vital than ever 1/9 www.wired.com/how-to-win-a...

Today, people—from students to federal workers, from immigrants to the LGBTQ+ community—find themselves forced to fight deportations, surveillance, and the drastic erosion of fundamental human rights. So, WIRED dedicated a whole issue on How To Win A Fight. Start ⬇️: www.wired.com/story/editor...

After meeting stiff resistance nationwide to his militarism, the president redirects his vitriol and orders his security forces to target American cities.

As we mark the 10-year anniversary of Donald Trump’s golden escalator ride, I talked about a figure who may have a lot of influence over the next decade: Curtis Yarvin

Stumbled across a 30 for 30 documentary on the Vancouver riots in 2011 (title: “I’m Just Here for the Riot”) and it’s really impressive. Really not at all a movie about hockey, even though the Canucks losing in the Stanley Cup finals that year is what set it all off.

Going on MSNBC in about 15 minutes to talk Trump-Elon
