Does Bluesky like ancient blue pigments? I hope so, because here's a story about them! 🧪🐡 www.forbes.com/sites/evaams...

Work in progress—Gyre.

Today's ArtDrop is "The Love Letter" by Vermeer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY APOD! This was a brilliant idea early on in the days of the internet: a daily cool astronomy/space pic with a brief description and links. It brought science to millions of people.

whoa

I'm just baking here, but every time I see current images of Marco Rubio he looks like he wants to do a coup.

This👏 is👏 art👏

Guys. I think it's happening.

Today's ArtDrop is an old oil on panel 'Old Man Sleeping' by Rembrandt van Rijn.

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads, especially the dad next door who is doing a great job raising his toddler son and supporting his pregnant wife. Outstanding, sir.

Seen (heard) today during the "No Kings" protest march in Chicago: people inside the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago tapping along as marchers pass by outside. The tapping is loud enough that it can be heard above the protestors' cheers and chants.

If you see any of these at a protest just pick them up. Throw them in the nearest garbage bin. We found this one in the mulch along the protest route in Elgin

My home girl just sent this through from LA.

That is a good sign.

“Oligargle my balls” is my favorite sign slogan

Now I've had a chance to read Andrea Sella's article in @chemistryworld.com on why he returned his Royal Society Faraday Medal. I recommend that you read it too. It's inspiring, though inevitably also disturbing, in these troubled times. www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/why-...

Lynne Ahrens was a 22 year old guitar-playing secretary/copywriter at the advertising firm of McCaffrey & McCall when she was asked by producer George Newell if she’d like to contribute songs to the new Schoolhouse Rock project. She wrote and sang “No More Kings.” Think of her this weekend.

Today's ArtDrop is by Op Artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. 'Physichromie 2376' is a great sample of his phenomenal exploration of color, vision, and perception over his long and illustrious career.

Joseph Stella, born on this day in 1877, was one of many immigrants who revolutionized American art in the early 20th century. He is best known for his Precisionist evocations of the dazzling new landscape of industrial America, like Battle of Lights, Coney Island artgallery.yale.edu/collections/...

I tried to see the Julia Thecla exhibit yesterday, but my kid was suffering heat exhaustion. We showed up to the event about 45 minutes early but even though they were setting up they wouldn't let me view the work. I would fire an art consultant for doing that.

Oh god. I was just thinking the other day that as unreliable as Wikipedia's is thought to be, AI Google search results are much, much worse. These editors were right to resist this change.

Today's ArtDrop is by Northern Illinois, self-taught artist Charles Warner. 'Cathedral II' is currently on display at Intuit Museum in Chicago.

I visited the Intuit Museum yesterday. So ArtDrops may be slightly skewed toward those genres for a little while. I also saw some video art by Pipilotti Rist and Pfeiffer at the MCA which reminded me to include some video pieces if I can find some online.

Contemporary art museum MOCA LA has announced that its Geffen Contemporary building—site of Barbara Kruger mural featured in photos of LA protests—will be closed for remainder of the week "due to evolving conditions in downtown Los Angeles"

Today's ArtDrop is 'Non-Violence' by Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.

Some photos from a visit yesterday to the ravishing Ruth Asawa retrospective now up at SFMOMA. Go see it if you're in the San Francisco area this summer; or if you're in NYC this fall & winter, it'll be at MoMA from October through early February (thread) www.sfmoma.org/exhibition/r...

One of my friends got COVID for the first time three weeks ago. She was recovering and now is getting hit with a bad rebound after testing negative. This is virus is awful.
