That's just lovely! 😍

AI seems to be a way for someone to seem barely competent at something they're terrible at. At some point, AI will start training itself on AI generated Data and stagnate. Over time, AI responses will become the norm and the well, written. human generated posts will stand out (I hope!) πŸ™‚

Crisis averted! You can see the repair if you squint and know what you're looking for but it's in the masked off area so will be painted anyway. ☺️

I've found a brand new way to fail! πŸ₯³πŸ˜‚ Got the lens off of the display, and cleaned it up. I was just setting up for the final sanding pass when it slipped, and landed on the frame of my engine hoist. I think I might be able to fix it with some UV adhesive. πŸ€”

It's the best way! That sounds ideal for Time Crisis (which is a personal fave!) πŸ™‚

I love big Bots and I cannot lie. πŸ™‚ You've inspired me to get mine out of the garage, they have been gathering dust for a few years.

Filled the iffy bits and gave it a final coat of filler primer. I'll give it plenty of time to settle down then prep it for a gloss coat of Ford Transit white. πŸ™‚

The bed wasn't cleaned, the last two prints came out fine so thought it would be okay to start off a print then went to the garage to sand the shell. I came back and noticed the printer swinging this round the bed like a mace. πŸ˜‚

The display has stayed stable for a week so I know the method is good. I'm going to work on the shell for a bit. I've done a bunch of surface prep and given it a coat of filler primer. I'll give it a good amount of time to dry then patch any gaps.

I honestly don't know. I suspect some kind of power supply? Whatever it is, you've done a lovely job there! πŸ™‚

Thanks, that's pretty much what I did. I cooked the throat cooling fan but it was pretty much full of filament anyway. All fixed and back up and running now. πŸ™‚

Did some work on the front bezel. There are a couple of spots that need tidying but it has the overall look I'm trying to achieve. πŸ™‚

Whoops! πŸ˜‚ This one is 100% my fault. I was pressing the display into place and was a little heavy handed, it caused one corner to come away. I'll leave it as it is and see how the whole display fares over time. If it's okay, I'll reinforce that area after I rework it. πŸ™‚

Thanks! It took a while though... πŸ˜‚

Well it seems to be going okay so far provided it doesn't self destruct. 🀞 It took some patching up and the backight is a little lower than it should be, it was that or stretch the ribbon cables. I'll run it for a bit, then think about making the shell a little nicer. πŸ™‚

What an amazing deal! I can safely say, hand on heart that it couldn't go to a nicer chap. Looking forward to seeing the pics of your work. 😊

Huzzah! There are a couple of tiny flaws but none in the visible display area and as it was never going to be perfect, it doesn't have to be. No sign of seepage either. I might be able to assemble it by this evening as I have a spare backlight assembly just in case of contamination. ☺️

As a side note, I've just realised that the geometry of the lens is fundamentally flawed and it explains why the effect messes its pants at extreme angles. I think I know how to do it better but that'll be for the next build. πŸ€”

Confidence is key. Instead of mimsying about being all precise, I spooged most of a 50g tube in a huge dollop then squeezed out the bubbles. The guide rails did their job, and it all went relatively smoothly. I'll see what's what after a nuking and clean-up. ☺️

The 365nm lamp arrived and what a difference! A test blob set in 30 seconds, much quicker than the usual 3-5 days of leaky madness. πŸ˜‚ I have some glueing to be doing. ☺️

I'm intrigued and glad you're up to mischief! πŸ™‚ A 1084s monitor is in my stretch wish list, I used to have one bitd, is it an early 1200 like you've been after?

Attempts 3 and 4 failed but I'm slowly eliminating its excuses not to be a thing. I'm adding guide rails to make positioning easier and making sure the surface is level. Also, I've been using a 395nm UV lamp, loca needs 365nm. That explains why it takes so long to set and melts the paint. πŸ˜‚

All good now thanks. I'm savouring all the delights that binocular vision has to offer. ☺️ Nice to know I can pull off the 'Space Pirate' look though. πŸ˜‚

Thanks! It was mainly due to a lucky rummage in a parts bin and immediately found the right parts. I was able to skim the teeniest later at a time, it was quite relaxing without any horrible screeching. ☺️

I only have a loose grasp myself. πŸ˜‚ The idea is to glue a lens to a display to make the image look curved like a crt. It's tricky to achieve and it's failing to bond successfully. The current plan is to someday, run out of ways to do it wrong.
comment in response to post
Without bonding, the air gap scatters the light all over the shop. It's down to the difference in the refractive index between acrylic and air. Bonding brings the image 'forward' as it's (nearly) one optically contiguous piece because they all have a similar index. It makes a big difference. πŸ™‚

Gearing up for attempt number 3. I'm trying a 1mm raised platform and it should allow room for the mask whilst keeping it nice and flat against the display. I also have three types of black paint to test for the mask. I'll put some loca on top of some samples and see how it goes. πŸ™‚

Re-replying as I forgot to mute the audio and my partner was bending my ear. πŸ˜‚ Yep, the same thing happens with these but en colores!

Thanks! It's being stubborn and fighting me but I'll get there in the end. πŸ™‚

It delaminated so got the lens separated using good old fishing line. As far as I can tell, there's a reaction with the paint and the screen isn't close enough to the lens. There's more of a gap than there should be. I have materials on the way, then operation 'swamp castle' will be back on. πŸ˜‚

That's been going on before AI - After I asked someone to remove my content from their page I was told that 'If you don't want us to use your work then don't publish it on the internet, just share it with your family and friends.' It soured the whole sharing thing for me. 😐
