I do feel that one of the things we lose to racism is the ability to enquire in a well meaning but intrigued way about people’s stories. People are fascinating. Their stories are fascinating. “How did you end up here” would be fascinating. But no, it’s too close to “and when are you going home?”

I keep thinking, how could the Tory Party end up in its current deplorable state? Then I see people like Shapps, so amoral they basically chameleoned themselves into a ministerial job with every administration, and I realise that they were the bridge between the stanza and the chorus. Damn them all.

I remember doing some music education sessions for kids around 12 or 13. They didn’t get Beethoven but fucking loved Xenakis.

My kid, after hearing me talk about " "Gen" "AI" " in relation to work (I'm edtech guy at a .. let's call it a college) said to me "oh just you wait till the ChatGPT engineers graduate" (she's at university). She figures that in about 4 years no one sane would walk across a modern bridge.

What Labour should be doing is creating a new narrative about immigration - about welcoming people who make a contribution but reducing the numbers who don't. Pretending to be super tough pisses off liberals and won't be believed by Reform voters.

For instance, the text doesn't "establish" commitments in these areas, as the White House claims. It agrees an intention to discuss them.
