I’m really excited about my next read - another hardback and one thats had lots of reccos from people who like similar books to me. No trains this week though so it may be a June read!

And I’ve just finished this. I really enjoyed the opening third but struggled to connect with the adult Dolly. It felt like having lots of info chucked at me rather than feeling it. The sparsity didn’t work for me in the same way it does with Helen Garner or Charlotte Wood or Claire Keegan.

Next up was this, which is remarkable. Sparse and short - the space spoke volumes. Another recco - and I thought the intro was good too, but as ever, much better read at the end

Then I read Dog Days which I struggled with - it’s a page turning read but the pov in abusivo relationships was an uncomfortable fit

I LOVED THIS BOOK. It’s soo sooo good. The characters, the story. I was pulled in from the opening and I think it’s just smashing. Recommend - worth the hardback price!

I had so many holiday (accommodation/maps) tabs open yesterday I thought my computer and my head would simultaneously combust. I eventually fought through the madness (I think)

When creativity isn’t valued/used is when you get a summary of existing info rather than thinking about applicability from other areas/places and new ideas

Agree - solving scientific questions is a creative endeavour (as is problem solving within social sciences)

I think this is true particularly for those boys that aren’t into fantasy or sci-fi. A lot of modern adventure books have fantasy elements which put some off while clearly attracting others
