I'm gonna be graphic here, so word of a caution if you're a survivor :🧵 The uOttawa hockey team was acquitted & the Hockey Canada team will probably be acquitted, too but that doesn't change the fact that in both cases, the men themselves admitted to behaviour that was downright abhorrent.

Meanwhile leaving coal oil and gas in the ground continues to keep pre-sequestered carbon out of the air.

The plantation burning reminds me of when the residential school burnt down in Shubenacadie. I was very young. Not understanding why we were all there watching a scary looking building burning. Cars lined up all over both sides of the road. It seemed like the entire rez population (1)

Tried to make a list of all the Ontario municipalities with accounts on here. There’s fewer than there should be but more than you might think

"When food is blocked at the border, when aid trucks are stalled, when bakeries are bombed and farmland flattened, it is no longer about denying supplies. It is about denying life. And that is why the world must understand: this is not a famine of nature—it is a famine by design."

If Ford's government wants to run roughshod over protecting our environment, the Region of Waterloo doesn't need to enable it. We should be protecting our ability to grow our own food for generations to come.

We are seeing a whole population being wiped out and live-streamed before our eyes over this supremacist ideology and this is still acceptable to the governing Liberal party of Canada and their supporters. Say something. Do something. It’s a genocide.

@mark-carney.bsky.social @anitaoakvilleeast.bsky.social please add Canada’s voice for the people of Gaza. It is inhumane that supplies and food are being blocked.

I call upon the Government of Canada to add Canada's name to this joint statement. Now. "We will not be silent in front of the man-made humanitarian catastrophe that is taking place before our eyes in Gaza." #abpoli #cdnpoli

The inside stories from the Hockey Canada sex assault case — including what caused that mistrial

Glad to see the Region has finally issued a media release about this change to MMR vaccine eligibility locally.

So the same defence lawyer involved in what caused the mistrial is also implicated by jurors in this jury dismissal…. I gather the publication ban on the cause of the mistrial has now been lifted with no more jury for this case, as it’s now discussed in this article.

Eastwood was later added, glad to report. St. Mary’s High School hasn’t been added yet. And, a list of GRT/Ion exposures has also been added - transit riders need to be checking the list too. And update your MMR vaccination if needed! I checked my records with my health care providers to confirm.

I'll tell you one thing : I've never told my friends "We gotta keep our stories straight and all say the same thing" unless my friends and I were preparing to lie about something we definitely shouldn't have been doing. The truth does not require memorizing.

Yeah, no kidding. “This year’s Code of Silence jury also agreed to bestow a dishonourable mention to the Region of Waterloo…Community groups and journalists have faced an up-hill battle to get access to information from the region on a controversial mega-project that will impact local farmland.”

The school also isn’t listed as an exposure site (yet, anyway) on the Region’s public exposure list. Last update to the list was yesterday. Is the delay due to usual process? Just seems odd to have this school closure reported without this info also on the Region’s public health site.

Absolutely nuts to priority a low-slung mass of rusting iron over railway electrification in Toronto

An interactive map showing known locations of "forever chemicals" that could be threatening safe drinking water across Canada newsinteractives.cbc.ca/features/202...

Lots of data presented in this article - vaccination rates (Aug 2024) at Waterloo Region secondary and elementary schools (in sortable tables).

This story is a deeper dive into the measles outbreak in Ontario. It’s from late March, but I just came across it. Worth a read. 🎁🔗

People are already dying from starvation

When I was a kid, adults were worried about acid rain and the hole in the ozone layer. They are not a problem today. Because of EFFORT and REGULATIONS. If we were still dumping as much sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, acid rain would still be a problem!

Just a friendly reminder that Poilievre not having security clearance was and is a very real concern and not just a reason to dunk on him leading up to the election

The state of Utah voted to ban pride flags so Salt Lake City Council decided to make official city flags that incorporate the progress pride, Juneteenth, and transgender flags so they can fly them without breaking state law

Everyone in the past was neurotypical, which is how we got things like this single-author, eight-volume encyclopedia of ferns

The people of Gaza cannot survive on fundraisers. We're beyond scarcity of food items being sold at sky rocketing prices...soon there will be nothing left. This either ends because the international community demands it ends, or we'll be watching them starve to death. Pressure your representatives

Making a city more car-friendly makes it worse Making a city more walking- and biking-friendly makes it better

Yup, the Liberal voters didn’t take the local context into account 😭💔

A full-throated defense of a Canadian institution. Worth defending www.miltontoday.ca/local-news/o...

Fantastic track. (And not at all forgotten!) And really this whole album is so so good. Just certified Gold in Canada in fact, in time for its 20th anniversary this year. @mattmaysmusic.bsky.social

This is such a delightful quote-post rabbit hole ☺️

Community care is possible. It does not mean we can always prevent harm but it does mean we can lessen its impact and make people feel supported and connected. I'm teaching a free de-escalation and bystander intervention webinar on May 28, if you want to join me : zoom.us/webinar/regi...

So we finally get to hear from the MP candidate, AFTER she won 😒

May is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Canada 🇨🇦 Why not carve out an hour of your time to learn effective bystander intervention skills? It's free, open to anyone anywhere aged 12+ and cameras/mics are off, so you're basically anonymous. Fits up to 1,000 people so please spread the word ✊🏻
