Agree. Specifics are important. We often know only in retrospect. For a more general term, I use "impact munitions." Point being: stuff to f'k you up via pain, injury etc. From a grenade launcher or shotgun.
Gas should always get a separate mention. Often the public says "tear gas" when it's OC.
