In less dire times I think some sort of "let children roam" legislation would be high on my list of priorities

Can y'all not imagine a joint press conference in which Trump announces new SpaceX contracts, Musk says he's gotten concessions out of the bill and it's now "beautiful", and they both wag their fingers at journalists who ask about the tiff?

Musk doesn't care about the bill except that he's not getting what he personally wants out of it. Trump *loves* feeling he brought an enemy to heel. Neither cares about consistency or hypocrisy.

People are calling this relationship "dead" too soon. They're both impulsive, mercurial children. Nonzero chance they'll make up by next week. Neither has any principles, both say one thing and do the opposite the next day.

So people can't sue the president because it would be too distracting while he's in office, but the president can personally sue individuals. Seems fair

I really think there's a nonzero chance this will all be forgotten by next week and things will be back to a normal kind of horrible fascism instead of whatever this is

For those who may not know, you can add the word "cancel" after "x" in any twitter link to read threads over there without having to sign in or visit that site

I dunno! Trump is nowhere near as smart as Putin and Musk likely has more tentacles in the government machinery than even Trump knows

Seems pretty clear that DOGE wasn’t ever designed to increase efficiency, but to destroy regulators in Musk’s way and gobble up the data of the American public and its government so as to provide Musk market advantage in AI race.

I'd honestly love to know why I haven't seen a *single* article in mainstream media reporting the fact that Trump hasn't demonstrated that he knows what either a tariff or a trade deficit is. Seems like an important cognitive indicator, which they're happy to report on re: other politicians

For a second I thought he was going to be talking about reopening the investigation into Clinton's email server the week before the 2016 election and then saying, a week after the election, "haha, turns out it was nothing". But no, he regrets the controversy around a photo of seashells

An ICE agent opens the door and the woman's daughter shrieks—an unforgettable noise of agony. Her mother is about to disappear, into the purposefully vague bureaucratic world of forced removal. The opening of that door, to this shrieking girl... it must look like a life torn apart.
