When President Johnson activated the Nat'l Guard in Alabama in 1965 over Gov. Wallace's objection he did it to protect protesters advocating for voting rights for Black people who had previously met violence at the hands of state troopers. Very different situation.

The live streams from LA are SO similar to Portland in 2020. Fed bldg on Alameda - cops come out, mess with protesters, go back inside. Little while later, here they are again. In the areas that cops have left- so too- the angry crowds. Compton still has a huge crowd & major police presence
